Those comics were enjoyed by millions over the years, its a damn shame that he has passed. There is going to be a huge void in the comic strips(even if they attempt to keep it going with another artist) that will unfortunately be filled by a cookie cutter comic with no originality. This is close to losing Bill Watterson's "Calvin and Hobbes" genius for me, although not quite that bad.

He was from where I live now (Broome County = BC) and designed lots of logos for the local sports teams. He's a huge local icon. Very sad.

That's sad. It feels like the world of daily comic strips are slipping away these days.

Johnny's best stuff was pre-1980, imo, but I agree that the daily strips just lost another one of the giants who defined the medium.
