VALENTIN HITS FOR THE CYCLE; SUSPENSIONS HANDED DOWN

2000:

Jose Valentin hit for the cycle as the White Sox closed out an explosive homestand with a 13-4 wipeout of the Baltimore Orioles before 13,225 at Comiskey Park. Valentin executed his cycle in order by singling in the first, doubling in the second, tripling in the third and homering in the eighth in joining Ray Schalk, Carlton Fisk, Jack Brohamer and Chris Singleton as Sox players who have hit for the cycle. The win helped the Sox conclude their homestand at 9-4. The Sox outscored their foes 102-59 on the homestand. The news wasn’t all good during this matinee. Giddiness turned to outrage during the game when the American League announced that manager Jerry Manuel, Magglio Ordonez, Keith Foulke, Bobby Howry, Carlos Lee, Jim Parque and Tanyon Sturtze were suspended by MLB for their roles in the April 22 on-field altercations with the Tigers.

It's kind of incredible really that the cycle occurs less than the no-hitter does. Or maybe it's not, and it just seems that way because the media orgasms over no-hitters and just mentions the cycles as something that's pretty damn neat.

Regardless; that's 5 cycles and 16 no-hitters in White Sox history. That's quite a difference.

I could have swore I have a baseball card that said Lance Johnson hit for the cycle once.

I saw Dante Bichette hit for the cycle, live and in person. The guy isn't exactly fast, and I don't even remember much about it, but I remember it happened.

Alphonse Dante Bichette hit for the cycle June 10, 1998 in Coors field against the Texas Rangers which the Rockies lost 9-8.. Was a 5 tool player, whose best years were with the Rockies . No doubt benefitted greatly from the Coors Field effect. Had a great arm. Led the league in HR's , RBI's and hits on separate occasions and was a 30/30 guy somewhere around his prime. Finished 2nd in MVP voting in 1995. Here's a box score of the cycle game. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores...id=199806100COL

I found the baseball card commemorating the Dante Bichette Cycle. Its from Score, Card #TC9 (The Cycle) . Was a special insert card not sure of the year maybe 1999 or 2000.
