Leroy Hunt scouting video - scroll down to the 4th pick, click the scouting video link

Scouting Report: The Reds drafted Hunt in 2005 as an outfielder out of high school and followed him to Sacramento City College. He had enormous raw power as a hitter but never seemed to get comfortable at the plate against good velocity, so Sac City moved him to the mound to take advantage of his arm strength. While he remains raw, Hunt has one of the best fastballs in the state. It has heavy sink and boring armside run, and Hunt throws it in the 90-94 mph range, touching 95 at times. His secondary stuff (slider, changeup) is almost nonexistent, but that didn't stop him from a 40-inning scoreless streak this spring, including a pair of outings against better-regarded Matt Thompson of Santa Rosa (Calif.) Junior College. Hunt needs to develop either his slider or changeup to have a second pitch, a concern because he hasn't shown much aptitude so far. He doesn't have a four-year college option and should be an easy sign, and with his intimidating size (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) and fastball, he profiles as a power reliever.

Hunt is a sidearming righty who features a fastball that ranges from the low to mid 90s. Hunt was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 33rd round in the 2005 MLB Draft. He needs to develop his breaking pitches to develop into a starter with any potential. Hunt has signed with Oral Roberts University.

Hunt seems to have run into some arm troubles this year as he had a lay off from Apr. 20 till June 4. Not quite sure what the deal was. However, in his 8 innings pitched this season, he has been decent. 1-1 record, 1.13 ERA, 2 SV, 5 H, 5 K, 4 BB.

as I recall, someone indicated that during the offseason he had a personal problem that may have caused him to fall out of favor with the Sox brass.

His scouting video made me take notice - he's got some nice movement on those pitches.

Hunt has been getting more work recently, and has been doing fairly well for Kannapolis. I am not completely sure, but he may have also taken over the closer role for Henry Mabee who was promoted to Winston-Salem. His almost end of June stats are:

2.87 ERA | 1-1 W-L | 4 SV | 16-8 K-BB| 15.2 IP | 15 G | 1 HR | 6 R (5 ER) | 13 H

Since the thread owner is MIA...

Leroy Hunt has spent 2008-2012 switching back and forth between A- and A+. He's now 24 in High A, and this is his 6th year in the minors, so he's a minor league FA at the end of this season. He's been outright dominant this year so far in W-S as the closer (in 14 IP, 1.93 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 20 K vs 3 BB), so he may see AA at some point. But calling him a prospect would be a stretch.

When I said he'd likely see AA "at some point", I apparently meant to say "tomorrow".
