BigEdWalsh Posted July 23, 2007 Share Posted July 23, 2007 This is great and overdue. So little is ever heard of Billy Pierce who was easily one of the best pitchers of his era. He probably should be in the hall of fame. I'm glad to see him get this recognition and wish I could be there. As for further statues, how many can they have out there? I'd like to see statues of Shoeless Joe, Big Ed Walsh (of course) and maybe Luke Appling. And of course, Frank had gotta be honored. The stubbornness of his manager Al Lopez probably cost the Sox a chance at a WS victory in 1959. If you ever meet him, he is intelligent, witty and modest.
