Meche's ERA (3.76) seems awfully low for a guy with a 1.30 WHIP. And I'd say that the latter is more telling of how good a pitcher he really is. Geez, even Jose and Freddy let fewer guys on base last year.

 

I'm wondering how much KC's relatively good bullpen has been keeping that ERA down. It seems like a lot of inherited base runners aren't crossing the plate.

With MacDougal? The Sox signed him to a 3 year, $6.45 million deal. Octavio Dotel's contract with the Royals is worth $5 mil for this season. They did not save money by trading MMac: MMac is still in the "ungodly cheap" phase of his career.

The fact that Moore paid Gil Freaking Meche $55 million speaks volumes about the level of pitching talent in their farm system.

It should be pointed out that Moore is rebuilding the entire organization with new scouts, new staff, new almost everything. They're starting, essentially, from scratch after all the damage done since Schuerholz left KC whereas we have had the same terrible approach for a long time with no results or changes.

Its saving $2 million and since they both suck and aren't contributing, if fact TL being in the minors actually is a postive because he didn't hurt the major league team which cannot be said about MM, the "win" if trades must be judged by that would go to KC. I personally would have made that trade, and I would have made the Sisco trade as well, but as of right now, advantage KC.

Not really in the farm system, no. The goal in KC is to build a farm system that can sustain the organization, like Atlanta. Here? Not so much.

Do the Sox need a change in scouting and the farm system, absolutely. They won't be able to survive without one. However, there already have been shakeups in the scouting department, and Williams said things will change. A month to judge the results isn't fair.
