There are a couple of Windows-based converters downloadable from this site:

I've found that getting files into vob format is often the easy part, and laying out the vob files so they have valid title sets for the DVD burn is the harder part. If you've got the $30 to spend you can buy DVDSanta and avoid a lot of hassles

There's a free trial you can try out - it watermarks the DVD but you can give it a spin and see if you like it.

DVDShrink...

it shrinks the DVD's to ensure that they fit on a standard DVD +/- R - but the quality isn't as good because it's compressed. Having said that if you just want to watch them and aren't worried about quality so much, it's a good program.

It compresses better than any others I have used also. Some of the ones I have pushed through this program look as good as the original with a LOT of compression.

I wouldnt use the free stuff. I use DVD Cloner and its worth the 20 bucks I paid for it

I think we are missing a major part of this though. He wants to CONVERT .avi to a DVD file. That's something most of these burn programs won't do.

The links I gave him are for converters to take avi to vob, which is the DVD standard.

Maybe in a headgear-wearing shortbus-riding way.

DVD Shrink used on conjunction with DVD Decrypter is a very reliable tandem.

It still counts man, it still counts.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone know a program to put a DVD onto an Ipod? I really don't feel like paying money to buy the ITunes versions of movies I already own on DVD.
