What would cause a file on a shared network drive to go into a "read only" state besides someone else having the file open?

I can see the file and get into the file. No one else is in the file, and when I open it up, it shows up as read only instantly. I have to save it as something different to save my work in it.

Someone might have protected it.

you might have clicked the default ecliptical button.

try pressing alt+control+delete at the same time...like 3-4 times in a row.

The permissions weren't set right. They only had the person who created a file able to edit and save it. It took them long enough to figure it out!

I saw "Stupid Network" and I thought you meant the CW.
