I think it would be cool if the minor league teams for a certain team played near the team itself. I understand they have to get minor league teams to small market cities, But it would be nice, fo example, if maybe the knights played in, lets say, Rockford, Barons in Gary, Intimiators in maybe Schaumburg or Peoria. It would give a chance for the fans to see the their prospects play and maybe draw more fans. But, I doubt this will happen... I'm just dreaming

Typically the AAA club is the one that stays close. It would make sense to have them all near eachother (Most of the Sox teams are all very close) simply because it means scouts can travel and watch all their guys with a lot more ease.

It all depends on geography. Many teams have Minor League affiliates close by. But the MLB teams don't get to pick what city a Minor League team is in (meaning they can't just say we want one in Gary where there is no affiliated team). They can negotiate with existing Minor League teams to better their geography, but much more goes into it than just location.

The Sox actually have done a pretty good job of keeping most of their teams together (once they got out of the exile called Calgary), they just aren't near Chicago. Only Great Falls is out of the way. The rest are all located in the southeast with 4 of them real close together in NC and Bristol, TN.

Don't forget Kane County!

The Cougars play in my hometown. It's cool. You buy a ticket for 5 dollars and can watch a pro game. I saw Beckett pitch once.

exactly - as well as what the minor league owners want to do - who makes the best deal -

I can remember Sox minor league teams from Buffalo to Denver let alone Calgary -

but Southern state minor league teams will always be far away from Chicago (inless there is a huge huge earthquake and then baseball will be unimportant), and we need them because of the earlier, longer seasons

Yep, I work there. I saw Dontrelle Willis pitch there last year. Now however the Cougars are now the A's affiliate. We still have a lot of good young talented players out here though.

Ahhh sweet home Calgary(close enough). I used to watch them a lot more as the Mariner's affiliate. Saw Edgar,Boone, Tino Martinez, guys like that. As far as bizarre distances go though, the Calgary Cannons finished as Florida's AAA team, that was quite the way to go for a callup.

Wasn't there a year or two where we had an affiliate in Hawaii?
