LVSoxFan
I could only marvel last night at Paulie's gaffe. He owes that pitcher a steak dinner for his two errors when Wasserman had two sure outs. Not only have I not seen before somebody get picked off by the first/third move (nice job, Waz!) but I've also never seen before a team botching run-downs like we have this year. What is that like, three? Four? What should have been an inning-ender became a triple steal? Had Paulie simply tagged that guy out he would beat the guy running home by a mile. Instead, he bizarrely throws to home and then throws it into the dirt. Every time I start feeling good about this team I see something along these lines and remember that in '05 the whole emphasis was on fundamental, sound baseball. I also remember that in '05 Pods was the only guy I had ever seen get out of a rundown safe (twice). Yet three times this year already we've given up what's usually an automatic out due to our gaffes. Would this be a record?
NorthSideSox72
Our corner infielders have indeed made a few more errors this year than we are used to seeing from them. Hopefully its an aberration, and not a trend. But I really don't see that one play as something to get all worked up about. And I guess I don't recall the other two blown run-downs. LVSoxFan
If I'm not mistaken, the other two were in back-to-back games. One was by Uribe and I can't remember who screwed up the other one. After the second one in as many games, Hawk of course started going Hawk-wild. DJ even said this is stuff a high school team would do. But that was a pretty big mental error by Paulie, for a veteran. Leonard Zelig
Jack McDowell used to pick guys off like that all the time.

I remember commenting that I had never seen a rundown so bad - even in my softball league.
StrangeSox
In one of the botched run-downs, OCab got rid of the ball like a hot potato instead of running him back to first. As a result, the runner advanced to 2nd.
LVSoxFan
In the other one, Uribe chased the guy to 2B but waited so long to throw the ball that when he finally did, the guy was safe. Oof.

LVSoxFan
LOL guess so. I should be concentrating on the O Cab/Ozzie soap opera, and ultimate fight night with Dotel vs. What's His Name.
witesoxfan
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) LOL guess so. I should be concentrating on the O Cab/Ozzie soap opera, and ultimate fight night with Dotel vs. What's His Name. I'm bored too, and I noticed the sig...the Sox weren't out of the race come September in 2006, nor in 2003. They both ultimately missed the playoffs, but both teams pushed on long into the year. There's a huge difference between a contending team being eliminated in September and a mediocre/bad team being done in July.
