Crede's FA status ?

Will Crede be a Type A free agent at the end of the year? I know it is weighted over peformance of the last three seasons, so did last season ruin it for him (or us). Also doesnt it depend on the other free agents available at his position or is it at that position overall? I know that type A free agency gets talked about a lot with OC, but I wasnt sure how close (or far) Crede is from attaining that status. 5 picks before the second round next year would be huge in infusing talent into our system.

I'd be happy if we got a draft pick for Crede. I thought it was based over the previous two seasons, but I could be 100% wrong on that. And he was so terrible last year that he would have to have one hell of a season to get type A status. Than again, I thought part of the measure was based on other guys at there position (is Crede within the top 30% of 3B, if not, he's not going to get Type A; For Type B you have to be ranked between 31-50% and I do think Crede would fit in that list (but again, last year really hurts him).

The rankings are compiled based upon player performance over the past two seasons. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, the rankings are used to determine whether players are Type "A" or Type "B." The classification determines which draft picks former teams receive as compensation if they sign with another team. The top 20% of the rankings are "A" and the next 20% "B."

AL List from October: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al...-complete_N.htm

Crede is currently a "B" and would have to surpass about 10 players (2B, SS, and 3B) to become a Type "A". Funny that Uribe is one ahead of him on that list.

Cabrera is #9 and would have to drop to #15 to drop down to a Type "B".

Position Groups:

Group 1: first basemen, outfielders, and designated hitters

Group 2: second basemen, third basemen, and shortstops

Group 3: catchers

Group 4: starters

Group 5: relievers

Stat categories:

1B/OF/DH: PA, AVG, OBP, HR, RBI

2B/3B/SS: PA, AVG, OBP, HR, RBI, Fielding percentage, Total chances at designated position

C: PA, AVG, OBP, HR, RBI, Fielding percentage, Assists

SP: Total games (total starts + 0.5 * total relief appearances), IP, Wins, W-L Percentage, ERA, Strikeouts

RP: Total games (total relief appearances + 2 * total starts), IP (weighted slightly less than other categories), Wins + Saves, IP/H ratio, K/BB, ERA

Here's my problem with that definition though...I don't believe it. I don't believe that in all cases they only look at 2 years, and even when they do they're screwed up. I'll give you some examples, IIRC ARod was not the highest ranked 3rd baseman in the AL last year by their scheme, despite a dominant season. And Eric Gagne wound up being a type A FA when he left the dodgers despite having pitched like 10 innings in 2 seasons.

They probably apply some sort of weights to each of the values. Also, since it is part of the CBA, there probably is something in there about injuries. For A-Rod, I think his defense kills him in terms of Elias rankings.

Thanks for the info, based on that list, it would seem he has a chance. Another question would be whether Uribe can maintain his B status, which seems possible given the defined criteria.

For some reason, players don't make huge jumps or drops on the list, so there must be some sort of averaging going on. So more than likely both of them would be Type "B" free agents at the end of the season with Cabrera still an "A" if he can keep his fielding pct up with calls to the press box.
