October 8, 200817 yr Hey, I was thinking about starting up an Etrade account, but thought I'd ask around first. If anyone here has one, how's your experience been? The E-Trade website says that it costs 12.99 a trade (for my investing demographic) and 40 dollars a quarter as an account service fee. Are there any other fees for stocks that they charge? There was a part about "margin rates", anybody able to explain what that is? Additionally, can anyone tell me what the taxation rates are for stock profits? Or perhaps direct me with a linkaroo? Any help is appreciated on this one. Thanks.

October 8, 200817 yr I have my accounts with Scottrade. $7 per trade, and no other fees at all. Margin rates are very competitive as well. Essentially margin is borrowing against the equity in your account to buy more stock (a very risky thing to do in this current market). You need a margin account also if you want to short stocks. I'm very happy with Scottrade.
