I disagree for a few reasons and here they are.

 

1) He's a hardworker and is willing to learn. I've met him a few times and I've actually talked to him for a few minutes each time. This guy is very intelligent and wants to learn. He is not afraid of criticism and will work hard to get better, no matter what it takes.

 

2) He's had some nagging injuries. I don't think he's been 100% this year. Although that's not an excuse, I think he can be a lot more productive than he's shown. He may not be the superstar that the Sox originally thought, but he'll be a solid player.

 

3) Once he shortens his swing, he can become a great hitter. This is something he needs to work on constantly. When he does make contact, he's as much pop off the bat as anyone. If he just strives to be a line drive hitter, I think it will all come around for him

 

Speaking as a biased fan of Borchard, I'm sticking to the optimistic side on this one.

It's way too early to think he won't improve. Whether he becomes what everyone expected or not is another story, but some guys just take longer to develop.

he is still a young guy.... he has a lifetime to improve. just hope we can wait that long

I suppose when a team gives up on him or he gets into his late 20's.

 

Borchard is 25 I believe, so I give him at least another year before I start to really question how he's going to turn out.

Yes, he definitely can and will improve with the bat.

 

A guy becomes a failed prospect when he reaches the Bigs and doesn't live up to expectations or when he runs out of options and is lost to another team.

Speaking of Borchard, he hit a HR today.

i know he has the ball to say that i have no patience.

And once again remember with Borchard remember this is only his SECOND FULL YEAR OF HIS LIFE playing baseball. He has a lot to learn, and it isn't going to happen over night.

I just looked up Borchard's stats, specifically the strikeout totals.

 

Last year, he struck out about 1 in 3 at-bats. This year he's struck out 56 times in 244 at-bats, a little better than 1 in 4.

 

So there is improvement from that standpoint. He's still obviously struggling with pitch recognition and plate discipline, as evidenced by only 12 walks so far this year.

 

His average has risen about 12-14 points in the last week.
