IIRC, that's what happened with the A-Rod situation. They were having difficulty negotiating with Boras, so they asked to deal with A-Rod directly.

 

As for Figgins, I think he can play 3B, 2B, OF (IIRC, he played LF a couple of times before and I know he played a bit of CF before Hunter arrived as well).

 

A-Rod went around Boras himself. A team cannot circumvent an agent because that is a breach of the CBA.

So Teixiera is a Yankee, let the Paulie to Anaheim rumors begin ;-)
