1 of my cars got torched tonight

thanks everyone

the two cars that were hit were both unlocked and had the windows down - and both the end cars in the rows they were in, closest to the street

there is no doubt a torch was used - perhaps some sort of accelerant in the other vehicle and not enough time to use accelerant in mine but the burn pattern is definately torch like - they had to have gotten into the drivers side and held the torch -

every other car in the two lots had their windows up and doors locked; it was just steps to go from the other car to mine

the other car is gutted and the car next to it was badly burned on the exterior so white hot flames had to be shooting out of the window of the other burned car - there is nothing left of the interior of that one -

at this point given all it had to have been vandalism - this is a very quiet residential (and expensive) neighborhood but right over the berm is the Meijers which means a lot of people pass by here -

I was just trying to sell that car too - and I had just put another $300 into it -

can you imagine if I had gone to USCF last night - I would have gotten home about 1:30-2:00 to find fire trucks in my parking lot and my car smoking and I would have freaked

it was not my jeep that got burned nor my Z so that is the only good part about this, of course those cars I keep locked up and these arsonists went for the open window unlocked cars - but I think my Subaru is gone

I am so damned mad right now...

According to your facts, im trying to figure out the motivation in the case. Totally puzzling. Random act of violence? And they would use a torch? Isnt that kinda dumb? I mean its very noticable to a witness. Oh well, noone ever said criminals were smart.

CW.....just read this now....so sorry to hear about this. No one was hurt right?

It is small town America, but sometimes that's where stuff like this happens. I mean, in our town, a couple of my sisters friends blew up a porta-potty with a sparkler bomb. Let's just say they're lucky as hell no one was hurt. Blowing up a porta-potty could hurt someone severly, with all the shrapnel flying around.

Hey, I hope insurance covers this, and let me just hope for the guy that did this that he doesn't meet you in a dark alley some night.....or maybe I don't hope that

Being a real Michigander, I own 3 cars and this one, the Subaru, I was thinking of selling anyway. The tow truck driver may buy what is left of it and I will survive. The guy who owned the car - is maybe 20 and he needs a car to go to work and all he had left was twisted metal, whatever they used to fan the flames was white hot, and his girlfriend's car parked next to his is badly singed all along the one side - these kids cannot absorb the loss as easily as I can, not that I can afford it that well but I will survive. Insurance never covers all of the costs. And I still have two other cars to go to work in and those kids are now without transportation to their jobs.

What the f*** is wrong woth people?

And you are right, the blowing up of the portajohn will strike some people as funny but people get hurt in seemingly harmless pranks like that - shrapnel kills and maims and maybe if these assholes spent time in an emergency room some time they would get over their sick infantile humor.

GOOD luck on everything, this is unfortante

It's stupid stuff that kids do when they have nothing better to do on a summer's night (I'm speaking of the porta potty, not your car being torched). Of course it's infantile, but it's not sick humor and they aren't assholes. It's just some kids out having fun. Unless someone's hurt, what's the big deal? I'd be willing to bet that a large percentage of the males on this board did some pretty stupid s*** in their younger days (say in the 12-16 age range). That doesn't mean that we're all assholes, does it?

I still do stupid stuff and Im 18........NOTHIN that bad like this incident though

Oh.. I'm sure this will get the standard "boys will be boys" idiot reply, but you're right. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Why can't the idiots who do this crap get hurt..? A little poetic justice would go a long way, IMO.

That really sucks. I had a car stolen (a guy that was pissed because I wouldn't date him), it was a car I inherited after my grandfather passed away. I was more angry because of the emotional connection to it (memories of grampa driving me around when I was little and such like that) then that the car itself was gone. The only thing that hurt more was when it was found, it was chopped up so badly. The guys at the pound didn't even want me to go back there, much less by myself. But I did and I got the plates anyways - my dad still has them up in his toolroom. He said he'd hold on to them until I have someplace to put them - now that I have a house and a huge garage...okay, the garage is more for my bf than me, but he'd hang them up in there with his without hesitation.

cwsox - I hope things work out for you and I am glad that you, nor anyone else was injured or worse.

I did a lot of crazy stuff and still do

the destruction of other people's property is theft pure and simple, theft

the causing of explosions which may injure innocent people is seeking to do physical harm with a weapon

both are felonies as they should be

there is a distinction between pranks and crazy stuff, and out and out theft and attacking others

and like the drunken driver who injures or kills and didn't mean, the creation of shrapnel is out and out crime, no matter what the motivation, and the destruction of personal property is wrong in any circumstance

lots of crazy stuff and pranks to do without committing ethical offenses and felonies
