July 5, 200916 yr link Buehrle gets 2 starts before all star break clayton on 3 days rest thursday danks floyd buehrle for minnesota series
July 5, 200916 yr I like it a lot. If Buehrle doesn't play in the ASG you can have him come right back and pitch Friday vs the Orioles too. Only part I do not like is why not start Poreda on Thursday? Instead of starting Clayton on 3 days rest give Poreda a shot to see what he has as a starter. I mean its starting to get pointless either get him in games or send him to the minors to get actual work in.
July 5, 200916 yr Probably because they feel Poreda's been on the shelf long enough not starting that Richard would be the better bet, even pitching on 3 day's rest, over Aaron...to go 5 or 6 innings. However, if Clayton gets lit up in his start SUN afternoon against KC, they might change their tune again and at least give Poreda the spot start.
July 5, 200916 yr Why not see what Clayton is made of? Ozzie isn't going to abuse him (I doubt he throws more than 90 pitches), and if his sinking stuff works, you have a better feel of what he is made of. Even if he struggles, this is the type of start that lets Richard figure out how to deal with big innings. He'll probably have a big, perhaps huge inning in there where the opposing team scores 6. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't though either.
