Issue is with the rule. just because it isn’t usually called doesn’t mean he didn’t break the rule. Luckily it didn’t matter.

If he was adjusting his helmet then he wasn’t ready for the pitch. The rule isn’t just eye contact. They have to be ready for the pitch.

He needs to be looking at the pitcher and ready for a pitch at 8 seconds. He was doing neither, and wasn’t ready until 7. It was close but it was objectively the right call.
