Work begins again on Dash stadium

Winston-Salem, NC -- Workers returned Tuesday to the Winston-Salem Dash stadium for the first time since April.

The financing for the stadium was finalized Monday night, which allowed the project to move forward.

Tuesday a crew was swept and cleaned the stadium, so the rest of the work can resume.

The project is about 60 percent completed, according to those close to the project. Work on the field is expected to begin in about a month.

The goal is to finish the whole stadium by around March of next year.

In a few weeks, as many as 300 workers are expected to be working on the stadium at one time.

"I hope a lot more people like myself can get back to work so they can help their family," said Joseph Cheeks, a worker on the site.

All of the subcontracted companies have agreed to come back.

Those companies will receive back-payments this week, according to Charles Hutchings, senior project manager for Samet Corporation.

He said about 40 subcontracted companies were owed money totaling about $5 million.

Kevin Terry, president of the Dash team and stadium, said he does not expect any more major hurdles.

Alex Prada, owner of Caffe Prada a few blocks from the stadium. He serves alcohol, coffee, sandwiches and gelato, but does nt have any competition.

He said he is looking forward to the competition and other development the stadium could bring to the area surrounding the park.

Prada said he expects an increase in pedestrian traffic around his location.

Bill Prim, owner of the Dash, said he thinks the stadium will be a catalyst for development in its area of Winston-Salem.

That is good news.

Kanny had some solid performances this season, some guys to watch, and many will be in W-S next year, so hopefully that new talent combined with a new stadium should be a nice boost for the fan base down there.

Good to hear. The Dash didn't crack 100,000 in attendance this past year, so they lost a ton of revenue. Plus, it'll be nice to hear Ed Collari broadcast the home games again.

are they going to shape outfield like a penis?
