The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported a Mariner insiders said if Brian Giles is traded by the July 31 deadline, the Padres are his most likely destination. Why San Diego of all places? The Padres have some money to spend since they are moving into a new ballpark in 2004 and they are willing to take on catcher Jason Kendall's contract. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review echoed the fact that the Padres are in the hunt for Giles' services

Seattly does not want kendall and the Padre have pitching to offer to the pirates.

The Padres, already with Nevin, Klesko, Burroughs, and now possibly Giles and Kendall, would have quite a talented team, and would be great for their fans going into the new stadium.

they are looking to move nevin, and burroughs, they want a great attraction in the of but i am a little confuse, nardy was one of there untouchable, now he is being offered to the pirates. that means they may want 2 of'ers.

so much for mags wanting to play in sd? i wonder if they would be willing to take clee.

either way, there pitching that they have is looking like they will get players of qualiy.ummmm i wonder why kw couldn't learn from towers on how to do this.

No way do they move Burroughs. His loved over in San Diego and he's gonna be real good.

I see them moving Nevin, Klesko or Kotsay. Burroughs ain't going anywhere. He's the only guy for them to play 3rd. Nevin won't be playing there and if they traded the both of them, then they wouldn't have a 3rd baseman.

San Diego is a great place to play baseball. Its like the place that most players most enjoy playing at. They have perfect weather, a beautiful city, and a new ballpark. Tons of guys would be willing to go there.

Padres also have awesome fans.

I'd say they'd be one of my top places to play.

I am awfully sick of teams thinking that a new stadium will allow them to compete. If San Diego takes on Kendall's contract with Giles they will still suck. A new stadium is rarely tha answer. What good did it do for Pittsburgh, Milwaukee anhjd (gulp) Detroit. New stadium or not a franchise that is run horses***, is just a horses*** franchise in a nice stadium.

New stadiums can pay off if they build a good team.  The real key is building good teams and not having absolutely crap stadiums (see Oakland).

that is the key, is to big a team. sd and others are trying to put several marque players on the team that will attract the fans.

we are now seeing the power of this team, we can do it. we started like s*** and we are still in the hunt.

think about that. we are still in the hunt and the winning of the ring is there. we have a decent farm, now is the time to do some smart trading for that one player or 2.

espn insider today said that the deal between padre and pirates is pretty much done. the only thing is holding it up is the money comp for kendall contract.

the prospect the padres are talking about giving up is>>>>>>>>>>>If the deal does go through, the Tribune-Review reports the Pirates would get at least two players from a group that consists of outfielder Xavier Nady, third baseman Sean Burroughs and pitchers Jake Peavy and Oliver Perez.

i don't know about you, but the pirates are not getting a lot in return.

Thats a hell of a deal for them. If they get Burroughs and Nady they are doing exceptional considering all the payroll they cut.

Nady is a freaking stud as is Burroughs.
