For the lawyers...

Featured Replies

So I will likely be attending Illinois for law school next fall (baring an unforeseen acceptance to Duke), so I was just curious where you all went to school and what kind of law you guys practice?

Thanks.

DePaul 2007, civil litigation.

My advice - work your ASS off in school, get as many internships/externships/part-time jobs you can find and network. It took me over a year to find a solid gig, and many of my classmates still work as clerks or have given up and started their own firm (with varying degrees of success). The market is insanely oversaturated right now, so you really gotta stand out (i.e. with grades/accolades or with connections).

But hey, great career choice! :headbang

Albany Law School. Came here on a full scholarship and graduated in May. There are no jobs (I got screwed out of a job at the firm I clerked at for 2 years) so I'm getting my LL.M.

My interest is public sector labor law, and I'm working at a govt agency in that area while getting my LL.M. just to network and ride out the economy a bit. Hopefully things improve, but you are probably coming in at the right time.

John Marshall 06- Civil Litigation is my primary focus, Ive done most common things (guardianship, eviction, just no divorces)

From the fact that you said you are getting into Illinois or Duke, its clear that you are far more motivated and dedicated than I ever was. If you want to be successful you are going to have to work hard and get your name out there.

I just happened to be at the right place at the right time for my job.

That is the school in Atlanta right? My best friend is there right now. He gripes about it all the time. How'd you like it?

He's trying to transfer elsewhere.

I'm guessing he means John Marshall in Chicago.

I went to the one in Chicago. I didnt know there was one in Atlanta or I would have been more specific.
