In Mozilla the wife installed something that keeps changing the default search to Yahoo everytime the program opens. I want to keep it as Google. Even when I go in and eliminate Yahoo as an option, it still restores it on a restart of Mozilla... How the hell do I fix it? I can't figure it out.

It might have something to do with a java update. Whenever java prompts to update they display an option to have yahoo set as your default search and you actually have to uncheck it before continuing the update.

Or come to think of it, that might just be to add a yahoo search bar to the browser. I forget.

If I go back and uninstall the last Java update, should that fix it? (if that is it)

See my next post. Maybe someone with more insight could provide better advice.

Java updates all of the time on mine, I never have this problem...but I've never hit the "Install the Yahoo toolbar" on anything.

And are you talking about the home page when you open firefox? Can't you just set the homepage to whatever you want via tools->options->general tab->homepage

I think he's talking about the search bar at the top right, which features about a half dozen search options.

Google is usually on top on mine, his keeps resetting to Yahoo.

You can click the search icon, select 'manage search engines', highlight 'google', and select the 'move up' button on the right side.

If I'm understanding his problem...he does that, but then when Firefox restarts, Yahoo retakes the top spot.

I've noticed that the same engine used last before closing out the browser will be the one that appears when you start it up again.

That is exactly it. Even if I delete Yahoo as a choice before closing.

One solution is to always try uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, if you can bare to lose anything you've saved.

I'll keep that in mind. I uninstalled the last Java update, and that seems to have worked.

Thanks guys!

Java updates will always try to reinstall themselves. Make sure, when it happens, that you don't check the Yahoo toolbar option.

Yeah, no joke. That was driving me crazy.
