BOSTON — The White Sox apparently will shore up their defense with the promotion of third baseman Brent Morel from Triple-A Charlotte.

 

Morel reported Thursday morning that he will join the team in Boston in time for a three-game series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Morel batted .320 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs in 81 games with the Knights. He made a favorable impression on the Sox coaching staff in spring training.

 

Omar Vizquel has played second base the last two games while Gordon Beckham recovers from a bruised and swollen right hand. Mark Teahen sailed a throw Wednesday that prevented the Sox from completing a game-ending double play before rookie left-hander Chris Sale struck out Shin-Soo Choo with the tying run on first base to secure a 6-4 victory.

 

 

I have heard good things about ths kid. I also think Viciedo is on his way back isn't he?

They obviously don't want Teahen playing 3b late with the lead.

Apparently Vizquel isn't doing the job? It appeared to me that the Tribune writer was a bit out there on this story. Viciedo-Morel-Teahan and Vizquel- Whoa nellie!

Depth and rest are the reasons here. Vidiedo can't play D at third, and neither can Teahen and Lillibridge. Morel is your D replacement if Omar isn't in.
