The Chicago White Sox announced Monday that Rose Jr. will take over as manager of their Advanced Rookie League team at Bristol, Va.

Rose Jr. had a 21-year minor league career that ended in 2009. During that stretch, he played in only 11 major league games, getting 14 plate appearances and two hits with the Cincinnati Reds in 1997.

His father played in 24 major league seasons, 19 of those with the Reds. He is MLB's hit leader with 4,256 in his career. He also managed the Reds from 1984-89, working the first three years of that tenure as a player manager.

Rose Jr. will also go the manager route now. After ending his playing days, he worked last year as hitting coach for the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League.

As a resident of Cincinnati, I am glad to see Jr get this chance.
