June 25, 201114 yr Wilkins has shown good power, a decent walk rate and a relatively low K rate. The average is due to jump up. He is having a strong season otherwise. I'm expecting either a strong second half or a strong 2012 from him.
June 25, 201114 yr Two thoughts: 1) Shane Lindsay is ridiculous. Now 7 hits in 32.1 inning, good for a .070 BAA. I am not sure what the record would be for that, but that is simply insane. Despite 27 BBs, his WHIP barely is above 1.00. He has to be having the craziest pitching season in the minors. Nook Laloosh?? 2) This has probably a 95% chance to be wrong, but I think Kevan Smith will be the best player for the 2011 draft. Yes, he is killing Rookie-Ball as a 23-year-old in a super small sample size, but I love his skill set, make-up and potential. AJ wasn't a full-time Major League starter til 25, so while he is old, it has happened before (Lou Brown voice). Edited June 25, 201114 yr by maggsmaggs
June 25, 201114 yr Yeah I can see that about Smith. Just because he's a catcher and most of the high picks are relievers, he certainly has a bigger positional upside. I like Gardeck, but again, reliever. If Walker and Johnson bust, Smith has a good shot to be next best. Kanny is playing a doubleheader and won game 1 5-1. Miguel Gonzalez quietly having a solid season since coming from extending spring training.

If Walker and Johnson bust, Smith has a good shot to be next best. Kanny is playing a doubleheader and won game 1 5-1. Miguel Gonzalez quietly having a solid season since coming from extending spring training. And that is partially my reasoning. If he hits even close to his potential as a catcher, that would be tremendous. And I think the likelihood of busting from Walker is pretty high (although I like the pick and upside). Johnson doens't seem to have the control to be more than a mid-rotation guy, imo. And then like you said, the other top picks are projected relievers. I really think his batting upside is .270-.280, 25 HR and 90-100 RBI with solid everyday catching. If you are catcher and playing his solid defense while batting like that, you are a perennial All-Star. Like I said, I am sure I will be wrong, I am sure I am overrating the hell out of him and once he gets to Single-A, he will be probably suck. But I love love love this pick.
June 25, 201114 yr QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) Kind of similar pick to Mike Blanke and look how he's done in A ball this year. I know and that's why I fear his demise. Eerily similar to Blanke.
