A split is likely, but I want 4.

BTW, sorry I couldn't make it Saturday. I'm glad you all had a great time. I hope to be able to make the next outing!

keep game is tonight

we've got the better pitcher who has been throwing extremely well lately. We also have a rested bullpen.

Angels in a funk

Considering the way the Sox have played on the Left Coast since 2001, a win would be uplifting -- and a perfect way to start the 7-game trip, especially with Cotts making his MLB debut tomorrow and then Washburn throwing for them on Wednesday.

feel a lot better if they win this one.

Sele has had some decent games against us, especially when he was at Seattle. He's become more of a soft-tosser because of arm trouble, but he still has a big-time curve ball.

Like to see how alomar and Everett have done against him.

make that KEY game is tonight, not keep game.

blame it on pennant race jitters.

If we take em one at a time, we could win them all.

Shields was a pitcher I was hoping the White Sox would've traded for.

Wednesday is definately a great matchup of southpaws :headbang

Let's hope for none of that 19-0 bulls***.

watched every freaking pitch of 19-0 because I couldn't believe the Sox were that bad. That was a Danny Wright special. Schoeneweis pitched for Anaheim. No repeat of that one this year.

But the worst thing about that series, I believe, was that the Angels scored 5 runs in the first inning the next night, making it 24-0 over 10 innings.

Of course, we all forget that Parque -- PARQUE!!!!! -- beat Sele, 3-2, that last time we played in Anaheim.

That was Sele's only decision against the Sox last season.

Schoeneweis, for the record, beat the Sox twice last year.

Wednesday is definately a great matchup of southpaws :headbang

Where does the term "southpaw" come from?

I'd love to beat them 19-0 on the way to our taking the series! ;)

welcome to soxtalk! :cheers :cheers :cheers

Didn't Washburn get that start? Maybe I'm wrong. I must be repressing memories from that game. I know I was sitting in the upper deck right behind home plate and all my buddies were giving me crap for that one.

After a while I just started laughing and rooting for more runs

Thanks...looks like the site I have been looking for all year!

Where does the term "southpaw" come from?

I quote from Rocky, perhaps the greatest movie ever made (and for the money spent to make it, it's certainly the greatest movie ever)...

Rocky -- I'll tell ya what the trouble is, ya see, I'm a southpaw.

Adrian -- What's a southpaw?

Rocky -- Oh, a southpaw means you're left-handed, and a southpaw throws your timing off, see?. Other guys, it throws their timing off, makes them look awkward. Nobody wants to look awkward. You know where "southpaw" came from?

Adrian shakes her head

Rocky -- No? I'll tell ya. A long time ago, there was this guy maybe a couple hundred years ago, he was fighting, and he uh, he was fighting around, I think it was around Philadelphia, and his arm, he was left-handed, his arm *points to left arm* was facing towards New Jersey, ya see, and that's south. So, naturally, they called him "south paw", ya see? South paw, South Jersey, South Camden...South paw. Know what I mean?

:D

Cut and pasted from http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/lefty...y_language.html

The term 'Southpaw' is derived from baseball. Parks were often built with the homeplate in the western corner of the field. When a left-handed pitcher was facing the batter, his throwing arm would be the closest to the south, thus the term 'Southpaw' was coined.

So, who knows...I like Rocky's explanation better. :)

Yep. This is it! Welcome.
