Your Top Prospects By Position - Skill Infielders

Featured Replies

Following up with the Outfielders thread, this week we can do one for skill position infielders (SS, 3B, 2B). We'll do a pitchers one next week (or mayve split it into starters, relievers), then a catchers and 1B's combined thread after that.

So, list your top 10-ish prospects in the Sox system for these positions, and discuss!

To start it off, here is my list, of the guys at those positions I'd consider actual "prospects"...

1. Carlos Sanchez

2. Marcus Semien

3. Tyler Saladino

4. Joey DeMichele

5. Rangel Ravelo*

6. Micah Johnson

7. Nick Basto

8. Eric Grabe

9. Zack Voight

10. David Herbek

* = Ravelo has been on restricted list (leave) for a few months now, on a personal matter. Hard to say where to put him as a result.

I'll try to spark some discussion...

No Nick Basto? His numbers weren't great this year, but he's about 18 and was drafted pretty high.

Also, Michael Johnson kind of surprises me on your list. He's about to turn 24, has played mostly in rookie ball, hasn't put up much in terms of numbers, and seemed overwhelmed at Kanny and W-S. I know you may have seen him at GF... any impressions on his play?

I couldn't put Silverio on my list. I guess I'm still highly skeptical of his actual age, and he's not really showing much with the bat despite being paced slowly through the system.

Admittedly I went with Michael Johnson over Basto mostly because I've seen him play and I like what I saw. Johnson is maybe not flashy but a good fielder and makes good contact at the plate. He hit the ball HARD. Yeah, Basto being just 18 should probably be on the list instead but I'll wait till I see a little better production at the plate from him.

FWIW, Silverio has also been playing in the outfield recently.
