Which is more disappointing?

Continuing our swoon and missing the playoffs?

Getting swept in the first round?

Losing Game 7 of ALCS?

Getting swept in World Series?

I couldn't figure out how to make a poll, so I'll just ask the question.

Personally, I think missing the playoffs altogether would be the worst.

Swept in the playoffs.

Losing Game 7 of the WS.

If you lose in the first round, or don't make the playoffs, you don't have that maddening feeling of--"JUST ONE MORE GAME, AND THE SOX WOULD BE WORLD CHAMPS. JUST ONE GODDAMN GAME!!!"

Plus, if you lose in the earlier rounds, or don't make it, there's also not that sense of wondering if they'll ever get that far or that close again.

I see what you're saying, but I think I'd like to enjoy the success of even getting to the Series. Now if we went out the way the Giants did, (big lead late in their clincher), now that would be an absolute heart-breaker.

Missing the playoffs completely would be most damaging IMO. If we miss the playoffs, there's ZERO chance of retaining our big free agents, and there will likely be some bleak years ahead of us. If we can at least get there, we have a shot at making some noise.

Seeing the Sox get to the World Series and taking it to seven games would be awesome no matter how they lost it. I may have nightmares and such but just seeing them there would be so sweet. It also means they probably would have won a home playoff game or two on the way there

There's nothing sadder than staying home in October. I was glad we made the playoffs in 2000 even if we did get swept out immediately. Still beats not making it.

I don't know, I think the only player of note we lose is Colon, and we would probably lose him either way, unless we win the WS. And to be honest, I won't be all that sad to see him go. Not for the money he'll be asking.

I think the Sox resign Robbie--he won't need big bucks, and he'll want to stay with big brother.

Who else is a real free agent after this year anyways? Not arbitration eligible, not club options, etc.

There's a whole thread about her on OT board.

I want Carl to come back. I've taken a stern liking to him.

I just found it, thanks.

Mercy.

Well, not making the playoffs is what I'm gearing up for now so I couldn't call that a big disappointment. Unless it's against the scrubs, I can't see anything being a big disappointment if we make it to the WS. If we made it to game 7 of the ALCS I'm sure my Sox passion would be rekindled. So, I guess it would be another sweep in the 1st round, at which point I may not even watch the 3rd game.

I couldn't live in a world that has us out of the playoffs and the Cubs in. Please God no.

As long as we get to the world series, I wont complain...

Much :)

What would be worse than all of them is getting swept by the cubs in the world series.... if it was a game 7 against the cubs, i dont even know if i could watch

Now that would be the craziest game ever.

Now that would be the craziest game ever.

Town would surely be on fire before then.

i'd rather lose in the WS than not make the playoffs, unless we lost to the cubs of course. also i've already asked for the time off from work if the sox make the WS, so i'll get to fly home to chicago.

not making a playoffs and getting edged by either A) a team that lost 100 games last season (KC) or B) the sad-sack Twinkies, who will delight in shoving in the Sox faces.

Agreed. At least if we made the playoffs the Sox would probably spend some money, keep some of the guys and maybe make a small splash in free agency.

If they lose, then everything is gonna get ripped apart.

if they don't make the playoffs in THIS division in a year when the winner is going to have about 88 victories (perhaps less) then this team should be retooled

something ain't right

Finally seeing the Sox in a World Series would be worth the risk of whatever could happen (except losing to the Cubs... no way, no how). Yes, I'd be very happy with an AL pennant, even if we lost the Series. But, with home filed advantage, you know we'd win that too. :D
