October 13, 201213 yr Let me preface this by saying I'm no statistics expert, but I thought it was interesting looking through the total team batting statistics for 2012. What stuck out to me (and maybe I'm captain obvious) but except for HR's, the White Sox offense was very average. Avg: .255 vs league average of .255 also OBP: .318 vs league average of .319 SLG: .422 vs league average of .405 OPS: .740 vs league average of .724 OPS+ 97 vs league average of 97 Pitching looks average as well, but probably slightly above average. ERA+ WHIP H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9 SO/BB League: 101 1.309 8.7 1.0 3.1 7.6 2.48 Sox: 108 1.292 8.5 1.2 3.1 7.8 2.48 Is this too crude of a way of looking at things? Baseball Reference Statistics What I see is that the Sox had above average pitching and above an above average offense... Which led to an above average win total of 85.

Which led to an above average win total of 85. Yeah. They looked like an elite team for a while before they started to really fade. I think it's more likely that the talent was there, but some of it wasn't healthy enough and some of it just wasn't durable and experienced enough. Also, just want to take the time out and say that chw42 is one of the better posters here. I kiss ass but only when it's warranted, so here's a lil smoochie right on the buttcrack from yours truly.
October 14, 201213 yr I think too, we have a lot of big contracts left (Konerko, Rios, Dunn) and if we don't re-sign Youk and Peavy, we're going to be an expensive 70-80 win team. Wouldn't the Sox be better off bringing back and spending the extra $ to field a winner?
