January 16, 201313 yr http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago...tm_medium=email White Sox Gordon Beckham and Alejandro De Aza were among 133 MLB players who filed for arbitration on Tuesday. The second baseman and outfielder are the only players on the White Sox 25-man roster eligible for arbitration. Beckham hit .234 with 16 home runs and 60 RBI in 151 games last season while earning $520,000. De Aza, who earned $495,000, hit .281 with nine home runs, 50 RBI and 81 runs scored in 131 games for the White Sox. The two players are projected to earn $3.1 million and $1.7 million, respectively, according to MLBTraderumors.com. Players and teams exchange salary figures on Friday. Arbitration cases are held from Feb. 4-20 if the two sides can’t reach a deal.
January 16, 201313 yr DeAza had a .760 OPS playing CF and will get $1.7M. Beckham had a .668 OPS playing 2B and will get $3.1M. That seem out of whack to anybody else?
January 16, 201313 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:27 AM) DeAza had a .760 OPS playing CF and will get $1.7M. Beckham had a .668 OPS playing 2B and will get $3.1M. That seem out of whack to anybody else? Gordon Beckham making over $1,000,000 absolutely seems out of whack. He's f***ing horrendous.
January 16, 201313 yr Doesn't service time come to play? He can't be making less what he was making last year with the arbitration process.
January 16, 201313 yr Good for Bacon, but is your offensive performance not factored in at all or is his D valued that much?

January 16, 201313 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:50 AM) Both are first year arb players, and DeAza actually has 16 more days service time than Gordo. I stand corrected.
January 16, 201313 yr I dunno, maybe being the best defender at your position is worth more than being a decent defender and slightly above average batter
January 16, 201313 yr Gordon Beckham - 535 games, 2067 plate appearances Alejandro De Aza - 271 games, 973 plate appearances It's not fair, but based on playing time over their first 3 years, Beckham looks like a starting 2B and De Aza a backup outfielder.

That does make those salary dollars seem a bit less unreasonable.
