Kyle Hansen

Born: 04/20/1991

Birthplace: Glen Cove, NY

College: St. John's

Height: 6' 8"

Weight: 200

Bats: R

Throws: R

Biography: Drafted by Chicago in the 6th round out of St. John's. Signed for $250,000 which is over slot. Brother of MLB reliever Craig Hansen.

Sign/Draft: Hansen was drafted out of St. John's in the 6th round in 2012 and was previously drafted by Milwaukee in 2009 in the 40th round.

College: 3 year starter at St. Johns

High School:Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 40th round (1,216 overall) of the 2009 MLB Draft ... earned two letters playing baseball for the Bayhawks ... served as team captain as a senior ... named the NYSSWA Co-Player of the Year as a senior ... a two-time first team all-state selection and two-time all-league honoree ... helped team win league championship as a senior.

Scouting Report:

Hansen has an above-average fastball to go along with a good change-up and slider. Although he is a starter now, he seems best-suited for a bullpen role with a 3-pitch arsenal, deceptive delivery, and shaky mechanics.

Career:

Coats began his pro-career last summer pitching only a few inning between Great Falls and Bristol.

Currently: Hansen is in extended spring training most likely tending to an injury, transitioning to a bullpen role, or fixing mechanics. He was supposed to start 2013 in a rotation joining Chris Beck and Brandon Brennan, but since they are divided Hansen will report in a few weeks most likely to either Kanny or WS.

Hansen has promoted to Kanny today out of extended spring training, perhaps he was promoted this late to limit his innings or heal an injury. He will most likely join their rotation or become the closer after Hardin's promotion.

Hansen debuted tonight for Kanny in a closing role pitching 2 innings, striking out 4, walking one, giving up 0 hits, and earning his first full-season save.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 7, 2013 -> 12:21 AM)
Very encouraging first appearance.

To add to his profile as a prospect, Hansen was a top 100 draft prospect last year despite being picked in the sixth round. Probably why he was signed for over slot??

Yeah, looks like ChiSox got draft steals in Beck, Hansen, Johnson, and Coats in 2012.

Kyle Hansen finished his first full year with a record of 6-9 with a 4.10 ERA making 20 starts in 21 games with 1 save in 96.2 innings. Kyle gave up 109 hits, 57 runs, 44 ER, 7 HRs, 27 walks while King out 103. He finished with a GO/AO of 1.11 and an AVG against of .282. The lanky righty looks to start 2014 in Winston-Salem, most likely in the rotation.

Steady numbers as a 24 year old reliever in Birmingham in 2015.

Probably a RP in Charlotte in 2016, with a chance to come up if an injury occurs.

Released in 2016 after struggling in AA.

Been in independent leagues since.
