Rumor: Sox, Expos Close on 8-Player Deal

The only way that is going to happen though Chisoxfn is if the Sox can deal Valentin.

Well, I have only one thought, Valentin for Tomko.

The Pads need infield help(middle infield) and Manos would be a good vet to help Vazquez and others out. He's a temp solution, but just throwing it out their.

Still, Manos should not leadoff or hit in the 2 hole.

We would be getting a catcher to take over til Olivos ready, a pitcher to go behind MB and a star second baseman that could scoot DJ to short and put Manos on the bench. This trade is too good to be true.

Jose isn't going to be on the bench.

Neither is Dangelo. Val isnt that good, he should sit while the youngsters like DJ get to play. DJ looked great last fall, lets give him a chance...

So by your reasoning, 30 games in the ML's, some of which Jimenez played a game or two at SS and a game or two at 2B, qualifies Jimenez to bump the vet to the bench? Explain your logic please.

In 1990 a young lad by the name of Frank Thomas played 60 games, hit 7 HRs and had 31 RBIs. We coulda just said let Carlos Martinez continue playing first, this guy Frank is nothing! And look how he turned out. Im just saying we give DJ a chance. If he fails throw Manos back in. :puke

valentin isnt going anywhere.....who would write his monthly diary ???? lol.........

Guys....I have no really good source for this rumor at all, but baggio has seen it....it is on the MLB.com message board.

A person proposed a deal that would send Pedro Astacio and Roger Cedeno to the White Sox for Carlos Lee, Todd Ritchie and Jose Valentin. From seeing that, I concluded two things...

1) This person is f***ing crazy

2) This move plays perfectly into what KW wants to do regarding the Expos deal

Think about it...why would Kenny want to trade away a SS that is decent right now when the White Sox would go with only Harris and Jimenez up the middle? Because he wants to trade for another 2B, aka Jose Vidro? Ohhh....

Astacio makes in the area of $11 million...Cedeno makes like around $5 million or so....the 3 guys that we send make around $13 million...the Mets take on about $5 million of what Astacio makes and in turn we basically take off Cedeno's salary.

However, this trade happens SECOND. Why would Ken Williams make a trade when he isn't sure that he could get the second one off?(because he's Ken Williams! lol).

I personally don't believe it will be Carlos going to the Expos...I believe it is Jeff Liefer. A package of Jeff Liefer, Jon Garland, Willie Harris, Josh Paul and maybe a prospect for Bartolo Colon, Jose Vidro and Michael Barret works perfectly for them....Jeff Liefer can play both LF and 1B, both of which are huge needs of theirs, and he could hit for a lot of power, basically filling in for Jose Vidro in the lineup. Willie Harris gives them a replacement for Jose Vidro at 2B, and he then leadsoff, and Garland takes the spot of Colon in the rotation. Paul also takes Barret's spot and the prospect will probably be a reliever for them, as it will probably be a minor league relief prospect(please let it be Jon Adkins, please let it be Jon Adkins)....they shed around $13.75 million from their payroll, giving them the opportunity to only have to trade a lesser paid player that makes around $2 million....they then can keep Fernando Tatis at 3B, Jose Macias in CF, Wilkerson in LF, and Liefer at 1B, with Harris at 2B.

We then pull off the Mets deal which sends Carlos Lee, Jose Valentin and Todd Ritchie to NY for Astacio, Cedeno and cash.

This puts us at around $58 million or so for our payroll...we then sign Buehrle to an extension, where he receives around $4 million in the first year...which puts our payroll at about $62 million. We then trade Osuna to a team that needs some bullpen help and is willing to spend some money(the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Cubs, the Phillies...etc) for a minor league starting pitcher or an outfielder or catcher. That trims our payroll by about $2.5 million or so, which brings it to around $60 million...and then we should bring in someone like Alex Ochoa or Orlando Palmeiro for the outfield.

Position by position

C- Olivo/Barret

1B- Konerko

2B- Vidro

3B- Crede

SS- Jimenez

LF- Cedeno

CF- Rowand

RF- Maggs

DH- Thomas

Rotation:

Buehrle

Colon

Astacio

Wright

Rauch

Bullpen:

Koch

Marte

Biddle

Wunsch

Almonte

Glover

Bench:

Graffanino

Barret/Olivo

Ochoa or Palmeiro

Hummel

Yan or Valenzuela or someone else like that

I'm not sure this is true at all...but it made so much sense to me at the time, that I figured I'd post it here as well...don't go and make a story or something like that on it now unless you get some clarification or get some actual good source for it. The fact that a Lee for Astacio deal had been rumored made me think about it...this could very well happen. Then again, it may not too.

If we have a 1-2-3 punch of Astacio, Colon, and Buehrle, we'd be heavy favorites to go far in the playoffs.

Exactly

put that one under the yea right category

i can see the astacio part of this deal happening... most likely with costing us lee or crede and a few minor players and cash... but thats about all to the validity of this rumor.....and the only reason i say astacio is because i know kw was hot and heavy on him for some reason.........
