John Danks 2014

Featured Replies

With the (hopefully) drastic improvement in position players, I've been thinking about how the rotation could improve for 2014. I can dream on Tanaka but likely we're set with what we have right now. It'd be a bit greedy to expect much more from Sale and Quintana, 2 of Johnson/Paulino/Rienzo probably figure to about replicate our 4 and 5 production from last year, so the real key to any potential improvement is John Danks.

So do we think we see a Danks closer to the 2008-2011 John Danks or the 2012-2013 John Danks?

I think, and I'll be perfectly fine with, a 2011 type season where he worked 170 innings with a low 4 era. As a 4th starter I think that's adequate enough.

It seems like the natural progression from this type of injury/surgery should see him gain some velocity back this year, and be pretty close to normal again.
