Plus, it all depends on who we get in return. I think PK makes a lot of money, so if they were to deal and get Ortiz and find a similar replacement, I'd be happy.

Come on now, we are called fans for a reason. If KW trades, hypothetically, Maggs for Royce Clayton I'll be extremely pissed but I'm still a fan!

Yea, jury is still out for me.

There is no similar replacement to PK, he is the man on this team besides Mags and Buehrle. I'd rather give them Frank and pay Frank's salary than trade them Konerko.

Look at Konerko's stats. Yes they are good, and yes he's a leader, but you can find that out of many first baseman out their.

 

PK is my favorite player, but I do not think he's irreplaceable.

And as a fan, you have the right to expect a competent person running the team. Trading PK is not a competent move and most Sox fans would agree with that. Of course I'd still love the Sox, but hell, why trade away a fan favorite who is relatively cheap. Think about it.

I agree with that with the exception of one thing, PK isn't cheap.

 

He just signed a new contract that will pay him very well. 3 yrs 23 mill.

Compared to what guys like Thome and Giambi have gotten, it's a steal.

 

It's not above my realm of expectations to expect 30 HR and 110+ RBI seasons out of PK for the next three seasons. At just over 7 mil, I'll take that.

I definately would too, but its also not out of the realm that he will fall somewhere in between last years season and the one before.

 

I think he's good, but I don't really know how much better he can get.

 

Thome was way over-paid and he only got that cause the Phils were desperate to sign someone after they were losing out on Glavine.

Well, if I worked for KW, I'd promise one thing, I'd be pushing heavily to pull two deals and one signing and it was the ones I listed in my thread somewhere down their.

on paper ths doesnt look to be that bad of a trade..but i have a real bad feeling about this one..just like i did last year with the ritchie trade (for those that wernt here last year - i fought so much with everyone here on how stupid that trade was i thought mario was going to ban me..lol)

 

i really see this trade blowing up in our face...i realize that ortiz is much better than ritchie could ever hope to be...but there is something about williams and thee types of trades...wells, ritchie, and now possibly ortiz...they all backfire

That was what I was thinking right away...and then I realized there is no way in hell it could. Ritchie had started the previous year 0-8 and had an ERA in the mid 4.00s, pitched for a team that sucked ass, and we gave up 3 pitchers in that deal. Ortiz didn't start out 0-8 this year, pitched in game 6 of the World Series and should have won it easily but the Giants blew it(and I am still laughing my f***ing ass off over that one! Lofton didn't get his ring...HAHA), he pitched over 200 innings and we are only giving up Paully K and a minor leaguer and we are going to get a minor leaguer in return as well.

 

Then again, this IS KW we're dealing with here.

i dont know enough about ainsworth to decide either way..sorry...

 

i think its a real risky trade..konerko is very popular here and if this one falls through its another PR disaster...i realize konerko is not the second coming of lou gerigh but i think he , thomas and maggs need to stay together...
