I genuinely wonder how different the Sox record this year is if the runner on second in extra innings rule didn't exist.

Words cannot describe how much i fucking hate the extra inning rule.  They should do away with it.  If they have to do something like this, take a page from college football.  Add it in after the 12th or 13th inning.  We win Saturday's game without that rule.

Toronto is looking scary, i wouldnt want to face them in the playoffs right now with how hot they have been.

They are a good team for sure.  But they will have to make it out of Tampa.

To be honest, the narrative I'm seeing is that it's going to be a White Sox/Rays ALCS and for as good as the Rays are, it's pretty damn evenly matched.  They are the only two teams built to have any postseason success in the AL.  You need great starting pitching and a very good bullpen.  Yes, Kimbrel has had his struggles in a few games, but I would take the White Sox bullpen against pretty much anyone in the AL.  Let's look at the other teams:

Yankees - An all or nothing offensive team that has no depth at starting pitching and a horrendous bullpen.  They can win slugfests but that's about it.

Red Sox - Maybe a slightly better version of the Yankees but a lot of their success was smoke and mirrors in the first half.  Again, outside of Sale, no starting pitching depth.

Astros - A very solid team but again there starting pitching is going to be tested in a way I don't think the White Sox will be.  As well as their bullpen.

Blue Jays - Their rotation, outside of the White Sox is the best in the AL when it comes to the playoff contenders.  But the Sox also exposed real vulnerabilities in that team.  And they have been having bullpen issues all year.

The Red Sox/White Sox series is a perfect example.  The White Sox won the kind of games they will need to win in the playoffs.  The Red Sox were able to win the slugfest.  Blue Jays are scary but I just don't think they are there yet to go deep in the playoffs.

Lynn is your game 1 starter no questions about it.

I'd like to see Hendriks start game 4 if the schedule allows for it.

Can you explain this to me?

Like I'm geninuinely curious how this would work.  I know Hendriks was a starter.  I guess having Kimbrel allows us to do this but am curious if he would pitch more than two innings.

I know a lot of people are likely alarmed at Cease's last start but I'm not.  The Red Sox have owned him this year.  I think he'll be fine and have no issues with him starting.

They mentioned it on the broadcast.  Was that the source of your revelation?

Lol.  No.  Was at the game today.  I thought it was Pito for the longest time but I looked at Leury's wikipedia page and he was on that god awful 2013 team.

The 2006 Sox had the 4th highest payroll in baseball. Look at the crowds they've been getting lately. Season ticket demands will be as high or higher than ever. Maybe you're right, but Jerry has spent before *after* the team gave him a reason to.

Yes and he wants a World Series.  And probably is hungry to go out with a possible dynasty.

I was on board with the trade. I understand the position you're taking. Honestly, I agree with it. It's just frustrating he's struggling to this extent.

It is.  But he's still doing great things with his glove.  As an everday player Leury is exposed.  As a utility man, he's one of the best in the business and essential part of any team.

A 90 wRC+ for a second basemen is nothing special. He was acquired to be an upgrade on Leury and right now it's looking like a lateral move.

I don't know what to say.  They need a 2nd Baseman and they got one.  He also was surging when they acquired him.  He's now in a slump.  Next year, we can decline his option and get Semien.

I don’t doubt that Grandal was hurting before he went down with the knee injury.  This is what a healthy Grandal looks like.

He had nagging knee injury throughout ST and the first half of the year.  The White Sox Talk podcast does a deep dive into his season and they mentioned this.  It's quite fascinating.  He's having a historic season.

  9. For people who are laughing about Vaugh, the dude might be slumping now but for a good part of the summer he was one of the more reliable hitters on the club and literally learned a position in one week and became a damn good outfielder.  We would be screwed without what he did in the first and most of second half.
