  1. Ley Septimo Baseball Reference Apparently, he started as an outfielder in the Arizona System and converted to a pitcher in 2008.
  2. It's probably true and I'm rather disappointed. I used to argue he was the best right Chicago right fielder because even though his numbers weren't quite as good as some north side roidhead, at least he did it naturally. This kind of puts a bullet in my argument. Now you can just say Sosa had the better steroids.
  3. Linky Here's a nice little article summarizing the game. Not too shabby.
  4. Man, I feel terrible for that kid Lewis. Get him out of there already.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 16, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) Seemed like the only rookie, Verlander, did fine throughout the season to me. Besides the games he faced the whitesox Not exactly. Verlander had a pretty bad August and September. Here's the line: G GS W L SV CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA August 5 5 2 3 0 0 0 27.2 42 22 21 4 12 18 6.83 1.95 .359 September 5 5 2 2 0 0 0 28.0 34 15 15 5 12 18 4.82 1.64 .309
  6. QUOTE(JERMAINEDYE4MVP @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) FACT! I REALLY DON'T THINK THIS TEAM IS GOING TO BE ANY GOOD THIS SEASON AND I BELIEVE THAT KW WILL TRY AND TRADE DYE, BUEHRLE, IGUCHI, THOME, CREDE, AND EVEN KONERKO BEFORE THE DEADLINE KIND OF LIKE THE MARLINS DID AND PICK UP YOUNG TALENT. DISCUSS. The only fact I see here is that this is an opinion. Do you care to discuss this further?
  7. This could get interesting. Zell has to sell the cubs and will do so after 2007. Since he has part ownership in the White Sox, it would be in his best interests to have more Sox games on WGN. More games on the superstation would mean more money for the team and more widespread interest in the team around the country. I've always believed the Tribune company hid television revenue from the cubs bottom line. Otherwise, if they would've shown huge profits every year without putting the money back into the team, even cubs fans would've revolted against them. More Sox games on television, more revenue, and hopefully, a consistently healthy payroll. Who do I think is going to buy the cubs? I've heard that Jerry Colangelo has an interest in them. If I remember correctly, he spent millions he didn't have and put the Diamondbacks in debt for quite awhile. Wasn't at least chairman when they won their World Series? I really doubt Reisndorf will allow Cuban to buy the cubs since Cuban will be like another Steinbrenner/Hicks and drive up league payroll. However, if Reinsdorf blocks Cuban, that would be an extreme conflict of interest in his partnership with Zell since the billionaire will want to maximize the cubs sale. In my dream situation, Zell would sell the cubs for $750 million, use most of that money to buy the White Sox, and dayam, we have our own billionaire owner! Has anyone yet noticed the tone in the Tribune columns since the announced sale? Rick Morissey did a complete rip job and starts out with "Wrigley is still a dump". Look for articles reviewing Hendry's screwups and how idiotic "Wrigley" fans are for filling the dump.
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) Where we would be with Garcia right now is not the point. The point is the White Sox got two boom or bust prospects for a solid starting pitcher, with both of them having shady backgrounds. KW couldn't have gotten one prospect who looks like he's actually starting to figure things out for Garcia? That's my problem with the trade, and nothing beyond that. Hindsight is 20/20, and while Garcia does indeed look like s***, he didn't look this s***ty in December. To get a 5'10 LHP with injury concerns and mediocre control in AA along with a throw-in for a guy coming off of a 4.53 ERA, 215 IP year is unacceptable, period. Holy crap. If KW knew enough to trade a pitcher who can barely throw a fastball above 87 mph, don't you think GMs and scouts knew that too? Garcia did not win 17 games because he was a solid pitcher. He won 17 games because the Sox offense saved his ass. I even read articles last summer where scouts said Garcia's done. Now if scouts, GMs, and most fans who watched him pitch knew that, do you think any GM in his right mind would offer much for Freddy? This spring has shown what everyone (except maybe you) knew. Freddy hasn't gotten the ball past 84 mph and is already hurt. Get off it already.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) I'll give you the 2006 Cardinals...but here's the key thing. When all of the cards have been shown, when each team has had its season on the line...what is the one commonality? Their pitching stepped up. In 2005, the White Sox pitching staff carried a mediocre offense to 110 wins. The pitching was just phenomenal the entire year. In 2006, the Cardinals struggled, but when they hit the playoffs, they finally had a rotation where guys stepped up, and those pitchers took care of business. I was saying in July of last year that the Mets would lose in the playoffs the moment they ran into a team which was pitching well, and they did. Most talent is not the issue. Most talent, and most performance, at the key spots is a much bigger issue to my eyes. You get starting pitching and bullpen pitching...and you look pretty darn good as long as you're putting something on the field. Especially if you combine that with defense. I agree with all your points. The reason I brought this up was because I constantly read posts of which team had more talent...'06 versus the '07 White Sox. I vaguely remember seeing someone write the '07 team isn't as talented as last year's team and probably won't win 80 games. I can't agree with that at all. This may or may not be the most talented team. There's no way to know that until after the season is over. I don't even think the 2005 team was the most talented overall team in baseball. The offense hit a lot of home runs but wasn't the best offense in the league. They did, however, have the pitching staff who pitched the best throughout the season and was even better in the playoffs. People can argue all they want whether or not the White Sox are more talented than last year or whether or not they're even the most talented team in the AL Central. It's the team who can play the best most consistently, and...at the right time.
  10. Can anyone here say the 2006 Cardinals or the 2005 White Sox had the most talent when they won their respective World Series? If this was truly the case, the Red Sox and the Yankees would win it every year. Granted talent is a big factor in making the playoffs but it's not the only means to the ultimate end. Baseball is such a great game and is so unpredictable that I've watched many extremely talented teams finish in last place. This year's team has more than enough talent to make the playoffs. It all hinges on whether or not that talent plays to its capabilities, long enough, and with everyone on the same page.
  11. QUOTE(juddling @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 09:59 AM) if i remember correctly, that was the same rap that Thornton had coming over from Seattle. It may take a little while but hopefully Coop can straighten out Sisco just like Thornton. I was at spring training right after Thornton came to the Sox. I didn't know anything about him and didn't even realize they brought him in the game I was at. I sat behind the plate among about a dozen scouts with radar guns. Matt has such a fluid motion that you would think the ball would come in about 90 mph tops. Every fastball came in between 95 and 97 mph (and eventually hit 99 during the season). I overheard the scouts talking to each other saying the Sox got a steal. I truly believe Sisco is going to be a steal when it's all said and done. He actually pitched very well in 2005 and had a horrible 2006. You know the talent is there and he's been effective before. I think just being around Thornton and Cooper is really going to straighten out his mechanics as they're pretty similar pitchers (tall, hard throwing lefties). With Matt, it was as simple as extending his stride and slotting his arm angle properly. I hope history repeats itself.
  12. Now, if Wood was doing the towel throwing drill while in the hot tub, he could've dried himself off much better and prevented slippage.
  13. I love the irony in all this. Because Hendry got stupid and decided to pay Ted Lily $10 million a year and Marquis about $6 million, he made it more difficult to sign his own ace. I know the cubs have a lot of money, but I believe "BIG Z" is less likely to sign an extension with them than Buehrle with the White Sox.
  14. Funny, when I read things I don't care for, I just move on and let others debate it, post their thoughts, or let the thread die. I'm pretty sure I've never said anything disparaging about someone's idea for a thread.
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) The White Sox already did this: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/fan_fo...inder_rules.jsp not the same.
