Palin said community organizers don't have "actual responsibilities." I don't recall the Democrats having said that with respect to small town mayors. What they have said is that those mayoral responsibilities don't necessarily prepare one to be president or VP. The same doubtless is true about organizers' responsibilites, but to say they don't have any to begin with is a HUGE difference.

    Play McCain's Campaign Manager

That list almost writes itself according to electoral magnitude. Ohio first (historically its an absolute must have for the GOP, and I think he will get it). Then the southern states listed, with an obvious emphasis on FL. I think IN is pretty safe, I would skip that in favor of CO and NV.

"My friends, if you find faults with our country, make it a better one. If you're disappointed with the mistakes of government, join its ranks and work to correct them. Enlist... Enlist in our Armed Forces. Become a teacher. Enter the ministry. Run for public office. Feed a hungry child. Teach an -- an illiterate adult to read. Comfort the afflicted. Defend the rights of the oppressed." Just don't become a community organizer after leaving college. My surrogates will mock you mercilessly.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) It's Open Mic Day on MSNBC. WOW! (Some language here, so be careful) The voices are Mike Murphy (Republican political consultant) and Peggy Noonan with a little Chuck Todd. Church Todd: "Was she really the most qualified woman?" Noonan: "no... I think they went for the political bulls*** about narratives". She added: "It's Over" for McCain. This must somehow have been fabricated. I have heard that only the liberal media is deriding this pick.

Ozzie Says Crede May Be Out for the Year

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) With the playoff roster deadline passing, they didnt really have a choice True, I see your point as to why he was activated. Handing him his job back over a semi-hot Uribe when Joe hadn't hit in forever though was a different story. I guess I just would have liked to have seen Joe hit in the minors before he sent Uribe back to the bench. I'm bothered that Ozzie doesn't seem to think hitting in the minors is needed to get playing time in a pennant race (See Owens last night and Josh Fields, starting DH, today).

Ozzie Says Crede May Be Out for the Year

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) Saying he was rushed back from a rehab assignment isnt that simple at all. He had surgery late in the offseason, started the season slow in ST, popped in April-May, and now is back to square one. Maybe he was rushed at the beginning of the season because he is showcasing for next year, and it started the downward spiral that got him to where he is now I'm certainly not a doctor, but in this instance, given that this particular rehab assingment had already been aborted once (on August 1st), I don't think its too much of a stretch to say that activating him after he played only four games in Charlotte following his epidural was a rush. Of course, we'll never know whether that contributed to or had anything to do with yesterday's flare-up, but I never said it did.

Ozzie Says Crede May Be Out for the Year

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) Its not that simple. We don't know anything about his rehab regimen or what the docs and trainers knew. In any case, this sucks. Crede's career may be ending here as well, which would be really sad. You both miss my point. Uribe was playing well in Joe's absence. Joe went a mere 2 for 16 in a short rehab assignment in Charlotte, and only went 3 for 19 since coming back up. This is a pennant race, and right now, believe it or not, Uribe is a better third baseman than Joe Crede. Joe shouldn't have played unless he was the better option. He couldn't and didn't show that. Your right though, this sucks regardless. We've likely seen the last of Joe in the Silver and Black.

    McCain chooses Palin for VP

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Obama spokesman Bill Burton: Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same. That's giving her slightly too much credit. Wasilla's population is 6,715. On the other hand, it does have a 6 person City Council! http://www.cityofwasilla.com/index.aspx?page=49

    McCain chooses Palin for VP

QUOTE (Soxy @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) I wish I knew what to say, but I don't. Thankfully, we don't have to deal with sexism in today's politics. This is a rather overt attempt to court Clinton supporters--but I think that more than a superficial look at Palin will make her unattractive to people who support Hillary's ideals. Sorry if my joke offended you. I realize I'm new here and you don't know my sense of humor. I certainly don't want to get off to a bad start. Respectfully, however, I'm not sure who your "we" includes, but I think there is still a tremendous amount of sexism, racism, ageism, and all sorts of "isms" to be dealt with in politics today, as a bazillion Hillary pantsuit jokes, knightni's posted "GILF" link from Wonkette, and, to a certain extent, this pick itself attest. I don't think Palin was picked because McCain believes she'll make the best VP, I think she was picked because she is a woman and can therefore be expected to deliver Hillary supporters' votes. In essence, this is no different than an inexperienced Dan Quayle being picked because he was thought to be handsome and thus attract female votes. Or Clarence Thomas (who was never even a judge) being picked to replace Thurgood Marshall on the Supreme Court. Those are just three examples of race and sex influencing "today's politics" at the highest, most significant levels.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) I don't know much about her, but damn she is young, quite a contrast to McCain. She is the same age as my Mom. (Actually that is true, and I hope that makes at least one person in this thread feel old). Done, thank you very little.

    McCain chooses Palin for VP

I think Palin would be an excellent, exciting choice for McCain: young, female, and staunchly conservative to rally his base. Yes, she's inexperienced (like Obama), but that's always less of an issue for a #2, even though that will be more relevant in this election because of McCain's age.
