So was the guy shown in the last shot of True Detective supposed to be the same one depicted in the drawing in Rust's shed? (you know who I mean). That was my take, although he really didn't match or seem to fit the description.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 08:33 AM) Did it seem to anyone else like the entire show was having teleprompter reading issues? Now that you mention it, yes. There are always old, vain goats who have problems reading off it and weirdos too zonked to read it properly (Travolta), but it seemed like it kept happening to Ellen, too
  3. I had forgotten about the weird, sad Kustok case, but it is now up for trial: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/s...0,1366375.story
  4. QUOTE (supernuke @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) 2-1 still some hope Tantalizingly close to the empty-netter.
  5. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) @jasonjwilde #Bears' Trestman sounds committed to improving defense. Says this will be a "defensive-oriented" draft for Chicago. God, I would hope so. That should be as obvious as saying it will be 'football-oriented.'
  6. The first and third goals were at ridiculous angles. I don't know how JVR's got in.

    2014 TV thread

I have not been able to watch a lot of series in the last few years and have missed out on a lot of acclaimed shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, TWD, Dexter, and Sons of Anarchy. I have seen Seasons 1 and 2 of Homeland on DVD (which I love), but before that the last shows I made it an absolute point to not miss were Lost and The Sopranos. Before that, it was The X-Files. Therefore, my opinion might not be the most informed, but True Detective is about the most awesome show I have ever seen.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 07:40 AM) You're right, of course. I only noticed it because I became obsessed with that type of shot after watching Goodfellas way back in the day. That's what did it for me too. I was thinking "Goodfellas at the Copa" right after the pan from the biker at the wall safe, past MM counting down, to the window (and back). I watched it again last night and found it even more impressive.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 04:45 PM) That long tracking shot on True Detective was classic. It was an amazing achievement; very cool and artfully done. However (and I feel almost guilty mentioning this), as soon as I became aware of what the director was doing, my experience as a viewer was jarred; I started consciously watching for how they were doing things technically, instead of just watching the action as it unfolded. To that extent, it was almost a distraction; the director may have better served his story by not "showing off" like that.
  10. Illinois tweeted that Ward's letter came in: Illinois Football ‏@IlliniFootball · 4m NLI #11 (10:40 am): Juco Jihad Ward is a BIG one, literally, 6-6, 285 4-star d-lineman. #Illini #SigningDay pic.twitter.com/74vIxmjKhK Look out, Pasadena.
  11. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) I think it's just about being there. I think its all about ratings. These are made for TV events.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) This thread is stupid now. Agreed. They aren't making the playoffs with or without him, and no one's going to take that contract of our hands. Pencil him in, hope for the best, and STFU.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 08:41 AM) McConaughey's character is awesome. I was never a fan, but his performance is stellar. I haven't seen Dallas Buyers Club, but I guess this is quite a year for him. The show really has a unique tone, and I hope it doesn't disappoint. Even if it ultimately does, whatshername's scene in Episode 2 will still have made it a worthwhile investment of time. Sweet Jesus
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) The point is the history of that program, who's there playing right now, Allen fieldhouse, on and on and on. I don't know about this. I think Notre Dame consistently pulls in stellar football recruits because of the paradise that is South Bend, Indiana.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) Fer Realz Come on. You act like the sport was invented there or something. What has Kansas ever won (besides over 2,000 games)?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) I thought he did a great job with Dragon Tattoo. Me too. Gone Girl is in very good hands.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) So Thomas is the only slugger from the roid era that I can think of to get in. Might be the only one ever. Alomar and Ripken are the only others who would come close. That an eligible player with 609 HRs would get only 7% of the vote could not even have been comprehended years ago.
  19. We've obviously all known this was well-deserved for years, but I'm so glad it's now official.
  20. Who will get the Bears' franchise tag now that Cutler is locked up?
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) Bears should throw him some coin to run our D. I like this idea.
  22. Greene and Bostic played poorly, but I'm hesitant to label them "busts" after their rookie seasons, when they were put in positions well over their heads. If they truly are, then the Bears may be in big, big trouble with Emery drafting for defense, because I think it's fair to label McClellin one after two years, and that would be a pretty big 0 for 3. 0 for 4 if you count Brandon Hardin, which I guess you should.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 07:32 PM) I think Illini need to go .500 in conference play and I'm not sure whether we can do it. Should be a fun and frustrating ride as always. Maybe not, so long as they're within a game or two and avoid real "bad" losses. IIRC, that rule isn't as firm as it used to be, especially in a conf that has a really good year.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Eh, I think they could go DL in the middle rounds and find some good ones. If HHCD is there at 14 i wouldnt think twice about it, but thats just my preference As bad as they need a safety (and they have the worst I've seen in 40 years of fandom), my thought is that a stud safety's not going to help that much against the run, which has to be priority one.
  25. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) I hope HaHa Clinton-Dix is available for the Bears at 14. They have so many holes, they may need to just take the "best defender available," but I'd prefer they go D Line first.
