Who is the 5th starter? Nastrini, Garcia or Toussaint?

It’s amazing they made so many moves this offseason, and the outlook for a few years down the road seems as bad as when it started.
Punting the near future in a desperate attempt to be better than last year in the now. Except they very well could be much worse.

You know, 7 wins a month would get them between 40 and 50 wins...and unfortunately I could see that happening.
This is a good time to remind everyone that great seats are still available.
Seats are available. Having something of quality to watch makes a difference.

I think they're that bad that they might lose 110 anyway despite the fact the ALC is ass.
Completely agree.

The next Athletic survey will be fan “hate” instead of “hope”. Jerry has that one locked up over John Fisher as well.
Fisher has done worse things, but JR wins through longevity. We've had 40+ years of suffering...

I will be excited to be proved wrong, but I don't think they can resist their own urges enough to use him as a true 3 inning opener. I think Grifol is going to say he's a starter so we have to use him as a starter and that means 5 innings first time out.
They couldn't resist the temptation of using him on opening day, why should we expect them to be responsible about his innings total?
Oh I have zero faith that this is going to go well, nor will I be surprised if they completely bungle his usage.

The Sox org is allergic to using the term 'opener' but that's essentially what this will be. I still think this has more to do with desperately trying to pump fan interest and sell a few more OD tix than it does win a game or a pitcher's development as a starter. Best case scenario IMO is that he pitches well as an opener every 5 days and is flippable come the deadline.

Just heard on the radio that Crochet hasn’t pitched 4 innings in a game since college.
Hasn't started a game that counts since 2020, in college.

The Athletic surveyed fanbases for 2024, unsurprisingly, Sox fans are nearly last (Rockies are #30).
Last year they were #23, in 2022 they were #9.
Clearly, Pedro inspires greatness! Awesome decision to keep him!
Keeping Pedro, in house GM hire, 100 loss season. Such an inspiration this org is!

Yeah I don't care one iota about Reinsdorf's pocket book or the extra year of control here. This is a risky strategy because it's risky to take a guy with arm problems and no history of building up innings and put him into max-stress innings against big leaguers when you should be trying to build his arm up.
If he gets hurt, people will just say "Oh he would have never made it as a starter", when the org just can't help themselves but find the high risk things to do on the way. Send the guy walking into a minefield and if he doesn't make it across its his fault.
Honestly, neither do I. We have a recent example of trying this exact same thing with one Michael Kopech and we all know how that turned out. Different players and different bodies, but not dissimilar situations. Building up his innings and not needing to count on him as a regular starter seems prudent. I want Crochet to succeed in a starting role, and I'm by no means an expert on this stuff, but this seems like the riskiest way to use his limited innings.

Opening Day bullpen day let’s gooooo
We kinda knew there'd be a bullpen day in there pretty quick, but I don't think anyone thought it would be opening day!
But to be completely fair, there are going to be quiet a few unplanned bullpen days all season long...

Even Pedro can't tell us that a guy with a 7.45 ERA had a great spring, right?
That might be a stretch, even for Pedro. My hope is that we don't see him in Chicago at any point in 2024, or at least not until September at the earliest. I just don't want them rushing anyone looking for quick fixes for the big club.

At the very least we don't have to hear about how his great spring training justifies him skipping AA and AAA.
Lets hope.

With all due respect one spring training start means almost nothing. He should be in the minors because we stink and he has some stuff to work on without MLB pressure.
Oh I agree. I just want the org to chill on thoughts of rushing him up. Wins this year mean jack s%*#, let kids develop on their own timeline, not to fit into a desperate attempt to "contend" soon.

Oh come on, this is hilarious. A guy they bragged about how great he’s been in ST went out and allowed 6 runs without an out in seemingly 3 minutes.
Hopefully this will quash the talk of rushing him to the bigs this year. Let the kid earn his way up.

Oh yeah, let's rush this kid to the majors. He looks TOTALLY ready...🤦♀️

Crochet has been one of the 3 best starters this spring on this team. It's exciting, and great for a veteran White Sox pitcher to get the opening day start over a newcomer. I'm not sure how you extract "victory" from that, but sure. I understand that every single move the Sox make must be framed in the worst light: Stupid move, everybody will get injured, OMG! starting their free agency clock early, they should try to lose every game while we all scream how they're losing every game, nail down that #10 pick. If Getz and Grifol succeed, my entire world collapses!!!
Heaven forbid you allow for legitimate critique of an org that has a lengthy history of making dumb, backwards, and shortsighted moves. Anything that isn't 100% effusive gets that special all or nothing sycophantic hyperbole from you. It's tired.
Yeah, Crochet has looked fantastic this spring, in all of 9 innings. But let's just shove the only name fans will recognize into an opening day start when he hasn't started a game in the bigs... ever? I mean, nothing to question or critique there. Nothing could possibly go wrong. 1000% sound wisdom from JR's Yes-Man brain trust.
For f***'s Sake.
