Most members of Soxtalk probably remember Tom Raines as the first base coach in 2004-05 who used to race up the line to the coaching box like he was trying to beat a throw to first.

I remember him as something different.

He was the first real star that the Sox had acquired since Fisk in his prime.

He was the leadoff man that the Sox needed and was key to them winning the A.L. West in 1993.

Raines was a real leader and young stars like Robin Ventura, Joey Cora and Frank Thomas looked to him and his playing experience for how to eventually become leaders in their own right.

Tim "Rock" Raines will always be thought of as a class act for the Sox.

I liked Raines as well. Later in his career didn't he suddenly stop running? He got slow. Do you think he was a steroids guy? Remember how big he got late?

-- f*** you network. They are showing the Cards v. Braves here in KC area. Assholes.

I think Tim probably was in that group of people who learned their lessons about putting stuff in their bodies earlier in their career.

Raines should be a hall of famer

One of my favorite Sox players in the early 90s

Yes, he should.

Rock Raines was great. I wish we still had him in the lineup today.
