It makes a lot of sense given the Sox could never truly know if they are the only bidders. The Sox aren't lowering their offer to Manny. If teams drop out for whatever reason, it just means Manny will simply accept the Sox offer.

All 100% true but marketability is definitely a factor here as well. What he'd do for a team like the White Sox where marketing is concerned is likely something the Sox have never seen before in their franchise. That includes Frank Thomas. He adds so much value where that is concerned.

He definitely gets Bears scoops. I may be wrong, but I don't think he's ever claimed to get many Sox scoops if at all.

This is the third time in about a week or so that he's spent ample time going out of his way to criticize Brian for providing information. Much of which is asked for by other posters. Some people whine just to whine.

My post and fathom's post was not in reference to what you said. It was regarding what another poster stated. I agree posters have a right to question. That's fine. But some people are just dickish about it. In my opinion, questioning Dave's sources is kind of silly at this point given how many moves he's scooped over the years. Including moves not related to the White Sox, i.e. Tulo like you mentioned. I think he even had the Yonder Alonso scoop as well. Brian provides a lot of good solid information but he's is not willing to just come out and make blanket concrete statements. He does not want to blow his sources and damage strong relationships he's built over the years. The same goes for Dave as well. He is a lot less open about throwing out specifics than he was a few years ago. It does not benefit either to do so at this point. When they both are able, they will provide more specific information. People should just enjoy the information. If it pans out, great for all of us. If it gets delayed, wait and see what happens. If it falls through, shit happens. People just need to settle down. Just my opinion......

No, actually both Dave and Brian's sources are legit. They do not need to be Jerry, Hahn, or KW in order to be legit and have good information. It is not speculation at all. Like I've said in previous posts, their track record speaks for itself.

EXACTLY. If they share something, even if it's something as small as ?, it's legit. Maybe something holds it up. Maybe it falls apart. Maybe it happens. Regardless, people should just be happy to get some info. Especially given how this offseason has been where solid info is concerned.

Adam Dunn was always at the top of the league in strikeouts though. He also clearly didn't age well from ages 31 - 34 with the White Sox. It was literally the end of his career. Hindsight is always 20/20. But Joc is not Dunn. Regarding the .228 avg and .350 OBP vs the .310 avg and .350 OBP guy, you'd need more information to determine that. What's is his wRC+, RBI, HR, SLG... A host of different things could provide you with who you'd rather have.

I agree with you about their chances if they don't land Manny, as well as other pieces, i.e. OF and starting pitching. There plan is to land Manny and address the other areas of need. They feel good about where they're at where addressing those areas of need are concerned.

I guess when you are "providing insight" on the Machado meeting and make a statement along the lines of "Manny wanted to sign during his visit to Chicago", that's not really guessing, is it? Considering a full month has gone by and terms have not even been agreed to, that statement or guess (call it what you want) is kind of preposterous. I don't care if Rabbit has been accused of guessing. He has solid information. Information a lot of times is very fluid. So from my point of view, I'm not really seeing the irony with Rabbit making that statement.

I think people sometimes forget that just because a team trades a player to another team, doesn't mean the team that traded said player believed he couldn't develop into a good player. Semien deserves credit for improving. The Sox moved him because they thought Samardzija would put them over the top in 2015 and Anderson was their SS of the future.

That tweet could literally mean anything though, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

Why is it ironic? What was the insight Chilli provided? That Machado wanted to sign while on his visit to Chicago? What was Machado signing? They still haven't come to terms on an agreement and Manny's visit was a month ago.
