  1. Even though Preller is a scary wild card, he can’t be THAT crazy to spend all his money, while in a solid division, when his starting rotation is: Joey Lucchesi Robbie Erlin Bryan Mitchell Eric Lauer Luis Perdomo Yes they have a lot of solid SP prospects but they’re young with uncertainties. They don’t have a Kopech or Rodon, or even a Lopez. They need that money for SP. At least when he went crazy in 2015 (and fell flat on his face) with upton, Myers, kimbrel, they had Kennedy and Tyson Ross coming off solid years, got James shields and Andrew cashner was expected to still somebody
  2. Those who think palka is better or more valuable than Joc, please use your head. look at Matt Davidson. Same age. Same ridiculous power. Same pathetic OBP and defense. Palka is replaceable. You want what he offers, go get CJ Cron, Logan Morrison, Justin Smoak, Jay Bruce, etc etc etc. the list goes on forever.
  3. He could be back in Charlotte when Eloy is up. He may suck, who knows. Yonder has been decent consistent hitter and is a solid defender
  4. I dno. I think we’re very high on palka because yes he has ridiculous power but .294 OBP! He’s 27, are we expecting him to get better? He’s an absolute wild card
  5. Engel is without a doubt on the roster. He’s your fourth outfielder. He’s a gold glove outfielder. and Palka is DH/1B. Bench of Engel palka yolmer mccann
  6. Saw that but do not see Sox trading someone who can make legitimate impact on roster when he’s up. All those guys I mentioned will be up at the same time and blocked by the elite prospects. Bryce bush is like 19
  7. Only guy from major league roster I could see is Leury + minor leaguer. Could also see a pair of Lambert/Henzman and Cuberlo/Laz Rivera
  8. just to go back to #hattalk. i don't think you can overstate the impact getting alonso and jay has on MM's decision just by looking at that picture alone. I know he's gonna follow the money but Manny seeing the sox hats on his sister and brother in law and nephew at least leaves some subconscious influence on him. Gotta tip your cap to Rick and not be haters on him, he's trying.
  9. fairly certain Ottavino took a nice home town discount as a Yankees fan from Brooklyn. I'm sure Sox wanted him but couldnt get him for that price. I have a feeling they are saving that money for Gio Gonzalez. Reliable LHP, has the Manny/Alonso/Jay Miami connection
  10. Speaking of Bruce Levine, It’s amazing these baseball writers continue to be employed in Chicago. Paul Sullivan: β€œAramis Ramirez β€” Hall of Fame Bound? Only five third basemen had more career RBIs than Ramirez’s 1,417, believe it or not. One of the more underrated hitters of the 2000s, the former Cub will be eligible for the Hall of Fame on the 2021 ballot. While Sammy Sosa languishes on the ballot, Ramirez could be the next Cub headed to Cooperstown.” okay paul.
  11. Not manny related but kinda is after we get him and then Eloy is eventually called up. Delmonico’s gone right. Bench of McCann, Jay, Yolmer, Leury/rondon. We’ll lose half our female fan base w/o Matty D and Nicky D.
  12. I’m not saying being heavily in on Harper means they aren’t in on Machado or has anything to do with Machado. Just mentioning it because the front on Harper connection with Sox lately has been pretty silent.
  13. I do not know how reliable and in the know this person is, but I have heard from one of the Sox Board Members/Board of Directors as recent as yesterday saying the Sox are heavily in on Harper and one of their biggest competitors for him is the Cinicinnati Reds. I know. Hard to believe but that’s what he said. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
  14. I'm not sure where you guys are getting these luxury tax numbers (50%, 95%). 95% are you kidding me?... The rule is 20% ON ALL OVERAGES for first time offenders. 30% for second time offenders (consecutive years), 50% for third time offenders (consecutive years). It resets to first time if they are under the year prior. So no, that is not true at all that Bryce will cost them $50+ mil.
  15. First time poster, appreciate the sensical talk (most of the time). Would love to give my reasoning to bring a sense of comfort on why I feel the Phillies and White Sox will end up with Harper and Machado; based on process of elimination. Harper between Phillies, Dodgers, Nats; Signs with Phillies Why not Dodgers- they’ve been to the World Series the last two years. Harper is not the missing piece. He has no fit in their current roster. Lefty loaded lineup (especially OFers). Would essentially have to trade Verdugo to make it work, who is cheap and talented. Andrew Friedman is smart with money, there are better pieces such as righty Pollock in CF. Rotation with 4.02 ERA in playoffs w/ Hill and Ryu entering Free Agency next year. They need that money desperately for starters and relievers. Why not Nats- I’m shocked they’re still in discussions. Firstly, they have no money. And secondly, how are they not happy with Eaton, Soto, Robles, and Andrew Stevenson. You’re not spending it all on Harper to play 1B, when you’ll have holes everywhere else on the infield after this year. Machado between Sox, Yankees, Phillies; Signs with Sox Why not Yankees- they don’t need another superstar. Player caliber team w/ an already ridiculous lineup and a guy at 3B that has the potential to be as good as Machado in a few years at 1/25th of the price. They need reliable starters. Paxton, Tanaka, Sabathia cannot be expected to stay healthy. I think they are playing it exactly right by sticking to their original price because he is not worth more than that for their team. Why not Phillies- They get Harper. If they don’t then we’re screwed. Regardless, their lineup is filled with rightys, they need an impact lefty bat DESPERATELY and should stay focused on Harper
