From a baseball prospective the Phillies are a lot more attractive if I was Manny or Harper. But then you need to live in Philly and deal with that trash fan base.
-
"Hello, fellow kids".
-
But my opinion is the Sox are financially sound to do just that, even with Harper and Machado. There is ~20 mil on the books in 2021. It wouldn't be hard, I don't think, to still have a mid-level payroll by then.
-
I don't think it would be that difficult, but you would have to be essentially gambling on our prospects. I'm not going to dissect a roster 3 years down the road but I feel like it could be done if that's what the FO wanted with both Manny and Harper.
-
Those are off the books in 2 years
-
Lets be honest, even though everybody gets murdered here, Philadelphia is still a shit hole.
-
The 200 mil number would be realllly high for 2021 even with Harper/Machado. That would have to include a front end SP and another 3+ WAR guy, a few good RPs, and Abreu resigning around 20/yr. We have virtually no money on the books in 2021. Hahn also would never play his hand. IF they have an opportunity to get both they'll try at least I think.
-
Just for the record I don't want Harper. Moving on, aren't we on the hook for only 20 mil in 2021? It could realistically be done, but it's gambling a majority of our prospects pan out.
-
I'm not sure to be honest. I just feel like big name free agents would be more appealing if you could do that in certain circumstances. Obviously nothing outrageous like 75 mil year 1, and 20 mil in the following years. But the way I understand the CBA there is not a lot of wiggle room to front load.
-
This is kind of off topic so forgive me. Can somebody with better knowledge of the MLBPA contract explain why front loading contracts is essentially not a thing? I understand there is a percentage of total AAV it cannot go above or below but why? I feel like it would be more beneficial to do that with rebuilding teams like the Sox for example. Throw 40 or 50 mil at a guy the first 2 or so years of the contracts life while you suck to lower the hit when you are ready to compete.
-
I've been constantly saying the 2nd paragraph you wrote to anybody that will listen. Harper- Phillies, Sox or Padres Manny- Sox, Phillies That's it.
-
No, i know a couple retired guys that have gigs there though.
-
But they haven't.

Les Grobstein and Mully/Haugh have been calling this off season collusion with the owners. This meme needs to stop.
-
CPD wouldn't be working the pitching thing, that would be GRF security staff. Not saying that means anything either way in regard to this, I just wanted to point it out.
-
The Giants don't even make any sense. Their farm is completely blown up and they have multiple bad, expensive, contracts. Lefty power hitters also die at Oracle, which would directly effect Harper's next contract. So they sign him for lets say, 3/120 for a random example. The Giants are still going to suck and be the 3rd best team in the division with even more money on the books. 0% chance
-
And the Yankees are not getting Machado. I would also be shocked to see the Padres beat the rumored 8/250 offer.
-
I don't like any of these changes aside from universal DH. Pitchers are paid to pitch. It's pretty bad TV when a team gets a nice 2 out rally and someone like Bartolo Colon comes up to bat. The slash line on pitchers last year is egregious and it should be eliminated.
-
Millenial here. I think bosses/managers/old timers say this because a lot of my generation has an opinion on something. Some of my supervisors b**** about millenials because they are stuck in their ways/don't want change from "back in the day". The 6 or 7 of us are also probably the hardest workers at my job. Just my very simplified 0.02
-
I kind of have this feeling as well, although I can't tell how serious the Giants are. They already have a shitty contract in Longoria and they aren't competing even with Harper.
-
This is old and debunked as current. This was the offer months ago.
-
I don't see the Yankees signing Machado. That infield is a log jam and not in the "WHAT ABOUT PALKA/ENGEL" sense. Before they went out and picked up DJL and Tulo maybe. They would have to offload Andujar or Torres most likely to make that work. Not happening. If they packaged Ells and one of those two players to a team, maybe.

>Reddit Yeah, no thanks on visiting that cancerous, virtue signaling, circle jerk.

Harper is simply not worth what he is asking for in my opinion. He is too inconsistent, shitty defender, and gets hurt too much for my liking. Give me the gold glove infielder that rakes every year please.
