  1. I think it's fine if they (1) asked him for permission to ask the question beforehand, and (2) made sure he wanted to make a statement about social issues beforehand also. If they just hit him with a question like that it's bullshit.
  2. Really every team has a pretty good shot at the players who are willing to sign for 20k. I mean how many opportunities are there to go around? Sure your average guy would rather play for the Yankees or Dodgers but would you rather sit on the bench with them or get full playing time elsewhere? I think the biggest drawback is the limited money.
  3. 1st rounder slot: 4,550,000 2nd rounder slot: 1,580,000 3rd rounder slot: 733,100 5% draft pool overage = 388,240 = 7,251,340 We should definitely get a legit 4th and 5th rounder IMO
  4. Let's see if this guy is on the lists or not.
  5. If Storm Throne couldn't make it to AA then names don't matter anymore.
  6. IMO someone they think they can sign for about $500K. College player obviously. Who knows?
  7. If they get a couple of their hurt guys to take steps forward, and a couple steps forward from the Dalquist/Thompson/Bailey/etc. group then they'll probably bump up a bit for sure. They are really fading fast in the rankings with all the graduations from the top-heavy farm. Also, we can't necessarily assume Crochet will last on the list very long. Kelley will give us another top guy which is great.
  8. I think maybe he rolls Hector Gomez's cigars. I used to think that maybe there was some source loosely connected to the Sox which was serving both, but I think James has consistently better source(s).
  9. I think they probably did but I think Not Steve Cishek should have retired his posting habits like 6 or 8 months ago. He's right about the sun coming up in the morning every day at about 5:30 or so.
  10. I think Kelley was the most excited I've been about a 2nd round pick since Ryan Sweeney. I'm trying to remember a more exciting 2nd rounder. I know Gio Gonzalez was a supplemental first.
  11. Even if both come to about 6.3M total we are pretty much already there. I bet we take a legit prospect 3rd overall. Maybe a RP. I was looking at Christian Chamberlain, something like that.
  12. I would disagree in general about a HS pitcher who just got the chance to be a multimillionaire turning down out of leverage unless he's like Al Leiter's kid or something. Most people in this country have no idea whatsoever what it is like to see that kind of money, especially a kid. I think he's crazy not to sign unless his family is rich.
  13. They also have less leverage this year, a lot more to lose, and they were just drafted by an org that has an abundance of pitching (they don't have to be rushed) and which has a reputation for developing pitchers. Really there isn't a lot of incentive for either of these guys to negotiate their way out of this situation IMO.
  14. MLB Pipeline had Crochet at 18th on their list at 3.48 M slot, and the Sox took him 11 at 4.55 M slot, so if Crochet agreed to slot for 18th overall then we have 1.07M to add to 47th slot which is 1.58M plus the penalty max. So that's 2.65M + max penalty perhaps right there for Kelly. We will see what they do in the 3rd round (0.733M slot). We really shouldn't have to give up the 4th and 5th rounders for this IMO.
  15. We really don't know it's a 2 person draft yet. Remember the "talk" about how Sale and his agent knew he was going to be in Majors his draft year unless he absolutely imploded in the minors. There could be some wink wink handshake stuff too. Plus as I state in another post, and I'm sure something a lot of people already thought before, if you are Crochet's agent, this is a team you probably really want to fit him with. We might have paid for Kelley with Crochet for all we know ATM.
  16. The Sox probably locked up Crochet's price range early yesterday morning. They know what it is. They obviously would have wanted to wait until the last minute to make sure Crochet didn't rise enough to rise his price. But I think if I'm Crochet's agent I am trying to get him to the Sox anyway so I bet the agent and Crochet would have been more willing to talk discount with the Sox given their history with LHP and Sale particularly. So they aren't taking Kelley blind.
  17. No IMO. Except the people at MLB Pipeline did. But I don't think you rate the HS over the college lefty even though it's probably pretty close.
  18. Seriously they could draft one of KW's children and a Reinsdorf kid and some guy from Michigan who once performed certain kinds of favors for money and I don't think it matters all that.
  19. Yeah I am just fine with 10K or whatever signings from now on. But I know they'll still put in the work and look for some interesting RPs or something.
  20. Please don't let that happen. Unless they still take someone interesting.
