I would say anything in a 5 mile radius would be ideal, since I'm running in between the driving.

I'm not one for starting threads like this, but I was hoping the fine people at ST can be of assistance. I can delete/close this afterward.
I have a race near Montrose Harbor on Sunday at 8 AM. I'm hoping to get there about 7ish, and I'm coming from Arlington Heights. They have closed parking near the race site, for 'public safety reasons.' Any suggestions on where to park near that area that doesn't cost an outrageous amount? I'm open to public trans as well; however, I know I wouldn't be able to start on the Metra, since the first one doesn't leave AH until 9:30, IIRC.
Thanks in advance.

Shh...It's like a little nap...for my legs.

Well done, Rex; great to see you're maintaining with this lifestyle change.

Very cool; congrats Steve.
My goal is to join you next year. I've gotten really into the sport this year, running three to five times/week + more than a handful of races. My longest race so far has been a 15K, and my longest personal run has been 12 miles. I'm already signed up for the half in Indianapolis next May, and I plan on doing a couple more of those leading into next year's Chicago Marathon on 10/10/10.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:03 AM)I think that's a bad idea. If there's a popular show you've DVR'd, avoid the thread until you've seen it, or be forewarned!
Agreed. I don't watch a lot of shows on the night they air anymore; I just avoid this thread until I'm caught up.

Eh, I assume most people only associate him as the Room for Squares and TMZ guy. I don't think a lot of people have heard what he can do live or the JM3/Continuum stuff. Anyways, I'm pumped for November 17th, when Battle Studies is released.

Go ahead and bash me for liking him, but JM is solid. His new single hits radio Monday.

That was too sweet.

So I just realized that starting tomorrow, I'm scheduled to work 31 of the next 32 days, until October 16th, where I have a four-day weekend scheduled. My only day off from now until then is October 4th, where I already had a race, I signed up to run.
Awesome.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 04:48 PM)I like it how it easy, personally. Soxtalk is great because of the minimum possible number of forums, IMO.QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 06:03 PM)I like it the way it is now - all in one place so I don't have to check multiple forums. I can just come to the "Sports Pub" and see it all.
That.
This place is broken-up just fine. "Cleaning it up," as you called it Jason, would only make things messier, in my eyes.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 05:36 PM)Do you use ice to lower the temperature of the water, or is ice somewhat of a misnomer? Are you basically referring to taking a cold shower? ;-)
I bet ptatc could expound on this more, but reading what I have on the subject--I don't see a cold shower being as effective, if at all. People do use ice in these. I personally have not used ice in mine yet; that may change though. My freezer doesn't have the best ice maker, and I'm too cheap to buy ice solely for the use of making my bathtub a cooler.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 09:43 PM)Greasy, tell me more about the ice bath. I was completely fatigued after my 6-mile run Saturday and felt tight, sore and just beat down. I'm running my first half marathon Oct 11 in Evansville.
Nothing very difficult to do, and ptatc definitely knows a hell of a lot more about this stuff than me. Simply fill your bathtub with cold water (just needs to really be below 60*), in waist-deep water and immerse your legs/feet in it for about 15-20 minutes. It's a nice way to eliminate some of the lactic acid build-up that occurs in your legs after a hard run or workout.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 05:11 PM)Ice baths will help alot to decrease the post run inflammation. There is nothing as hard on the body or as beneficial to the body as running. With it comes the inflammation and studies have shown that the ice baths decrease the incidence of chronic injuries.
I feel great right now.
I started running a little bit to work out a couple years ago, but I've really gotten obsessed and taken it to another level this year. The extra mileage has started to take a little bit of a toll on me of late, as my legs have been tighter (feeling like I haven't stretched) and a little sore, despite making a conscious effort to make time for stretching afterward. However, today's inaugural ice bath has done wonders for how I feel post-run right now. I'm a believer now.

I thought last season ended on a perfect note. However, I'm a little intrigued, as Bill Lawrence has said that he hates that ABC is still calling it Scrubs, as it's an entirely different chapter/show now. I'll be giving the new season a shot, because there's not much better than Scrubs on TV.

Any runners ever take an ice bath after a workout? I just got done taking my first ice bath; wow, that makes a world of a difference.

Have a good one, sir.

Awesome; thanks for the help guys. I've got to go that way on Fri/Sat to pick-up my packet; I'm going to see what makes sense. Thanks again.
