  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 07:55 PM)
    any year now...

    The only reason it hasn't happened is because the economy sucks balls - so either 1) the economy picks up steam and kills the low rates, or 2) we stagnate here forever because there's no growth anywhere.

    Nice set of options and I'm glad you sign up for the f***ed up misery we live in now.

  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 05:02 PM)
    Every time you let states run anything, they f*** it up. These national elections need to have national oversight and legislation to enforce it.

    That right there is what's f***ed up about the Union of Socialist Republics, er, I mean the United States of Socalism, er, I mean the United States of America today.

    If you want to dismiss the very core of what the Constitution is about, I'll just start calling you comrade.

  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 11, 2012 -> 08:37 PM)
    Mark Cuban on Bill Maher: "If my tax rate went from 35% to 39%, I'd never even notice." later..."I've never heard anyone mention taxes in any of my business dealings. You just make the best deal you can."

    That's bulls*** and Cuban himself knows it.

  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 06:16 PM)
    All except for the biggest legacy problems not being solved...

    Exactly. Without the they get to pay no taxes for the next bazillion years, they would and still are in a lot of trouble in a lot of ways. That's the part of the story no one from the Obama camp wants to talk about. They band aided a huge problem that is going to come back around again.

    the 2016 platform is a work in progress. i simply want everyone's voice to be heard. the free stuff list will be tallied and the best choices we go to a committee. we will then have a team of smart math nerds determine which list of free stuff will get us the most votes.

    Free falling bras.

    Mucho sweet p......

    Question:

    I am conducting a study and want to know which 5 special entitlements or free stuff would make you vote Republican the most. List a maximum of 5 please.

    Study my ass. You want a top 5 list of the platform for 2016. :lol:

  7. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 4, 2012 -> 06:33 PM)
    hey y'all. day 2 on the ground. was in one of the hardest hit areas today and ... i still don't have words to describe it. but i'm pretty certain folks are going to freeze to death over night. Going to get to the high twenties, and there are tons of seniors and kids with no food, no water, and no heat. The Red Cross and FEMA are completely useless. If you can spare it, please consider donating to:

    https://www.wepay.com/donations/occupy-sand...anup-volunteers

    Regardless of your political beliefs, the Occupy movement is the only organization doing ACTUAL good on the ground, mobilizing supplies to the hardest hit areas.

    These people really need your help.

    And I saw that mid-week, the area is going to get hit by another storm. Not "superstorm" or anything, but bad weather, where they do NOT need it.

  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 4, 2012 -> 04:53 PM)
    Once BO is reelected, it will be the top new story until it's resolved, I'm sure.

    What confuses me is why the Republican campaign hasn't given this attention. They could have been accusing BO of having a master-plan of giant tax increases because that's technically what the current laws call for.

    I do think most of them will expire if he's re-elected.

    The 2% FICA holiday one is going to anyway, which hits everyone that is currently working.

  9. Can you guys give some feedback on Windows 8 outside of the tech thread and put it here?

    Since I am starting a new job, I will probably get a new laptop so I am going to shy away from Windows 8 unless you all think it's worth the upgrade. I can't see it - especially for a business client in mind.

    For those of you who get it... let me know!

    Thanks!

  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 3, 2012 -> 09:30 AM)
    The millenials (born between 1980 and 1995) are a larger group than the baby boomers.

    But you still can't replace those earnings with the higher earnings of the baby boomers in real dollars.

  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 11:29 AM)
    Interesting.

    I had been intrigued by the notion of Social Security cuts and even privatization, but I realized after research that the motivations behind the calls for that are almost surely ideological. Social Security has been running at a profit for so long that $2 trillion of our debt is actually owed to the Social Security fund -- so it is hard for me to say that it is near insolvency when it still has TOO much money AND provided the government pays back the debt, they will have >$2 trillion in the bank to cover any potential tough times in which they run at a deficit. Last time I looked at it, the next time it really should get some serious attention would be about 20 years from now.

    QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 11:36 AM)
    The arguments to cut Social Security are nonsense and you can tell with how it's always conflated with Medicare. "If we don't do anything, SS benefits in 20-30 years will be reduced slightly, but still more in real dollars than they are today! Better cut our throats now and get it over with!"

    Privatization is an entirely separate disaster.

    There's two points to this. 1. Because of declining population behind the baby boomers, you will lose income and the related future value of earnings on the current funds. 2. If the government would quit stealing money out of it to fund general spending, it would certainly make a very large difference to this whole arguement.

    I have to say that on the surface I agree with you both on your point but even you both should have to admit that the two above points do make it difficult to support the position that it's not in trouble. But the trouble is self induced to a large extent is where I'll agree with what you're trying to say.

  12. QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 08:43 AM)
    4 people died in an attack on an embassy.

    hundreds of thousands (millions? i dont know) of people died over the course of a 10 year war.

    yup. they're identical.

    :lolhitting

    Okay, that post lost all your credibility.

    Oh wait.

    :lolhitting

  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 12:32 PM)
    For all of you that think Donald Trump has no compassion, he is here to prove you wrong.

    Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Because of the hurricane, I am extending my 5 million dollar offer for President Obama's favorite charity until 12PM on Thursday.

    I wish someone would just shut him the f*** up. Hey peckerhead, I have an idea, give that $5 million to people who just lost everything they ever had without being a little pathetic b****. How's that?

  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 07:07 PM)
    No need to flame. :)

    This was your first year posting here RZZZA... most of us here are long accustom to disappointment and have no hesitations about griping.

    In my eyes, Peavy was one of the reasons we stayed in the game until the final month of the year.

    The downfall really was in the following to me:

    1.) Quintina and Sale wearing down

    2.) Declining PK performance post All-Star break

    3.) Losing Danks to start the year

    4.) Santiago / Thronton woes

    5.) Peavy choking in some big games

    6.) A first year manager

    I've got hope for 2013 but they really do need to address 3B and catcher.

    I'd also like to explore other options in Centerfield but DeAza isn't a bad fail safe.

    Hope that 2013 can be a good year and I'm hoping for:

    1.) Sale Improvements with Strength/Stamina

    2.) Peavy Improvements with Strength/Stamina

    3.) Quintana Improvements with Strength/Stamina

    4.) Alexi preforms to his offensive potential

    5.) Beckham finally preforms to his offensive potential

    6.) PK's wrist holds up and we get 3/4 of a year of Paulie instead of 1/2 a year

    7.) Robin and staff gel better and make some better late game choices

    8.) A better record against the Central ( tigers specifically )

    9.) A great bounce back year from Danks

    After just following 162 games in 2012 - yes, it was disappointing but I saw it coming a mile away. We where tired. Some of the major pieces to our success where limping to the finish line.

    Next year, I hope we come back stronger and at least win the division.

    Detroit should be improved thou too.

    Urg.

    We didn't lose the division to Detroit, we lost it vs. KC imo. That's the pisser.
