He could be a third piece in a deal for sure.

Assuming MLB rankings are reasonably accurate, the Dodgers don't have an elite prospect and really none in that next category either.  Their top is #43.  And their prospects are older.  I don't expect an elite prospect for Cease, but I would think we'd need some volume from the Dodgers for it to work, especially if they hold back their #1 and #2, as teams want to do.

I like the fact that the upgrade over Benintendi is Benintendi and the upgrade over Eloy is Eloy and that’s almost half the projected improvement. And yeah I can’t even tell who is projected in RF.

While there's a certain degree of rabbit's foot rubbing to expect these players to improve,  it's not like these players were past-their-prime veterans who could have been reasonably expected to have down years.

The Sox had an inordinate number of dog years from players who should be in their prime.   The young players didn't progress a lick (and some regressed).
I think it's reasonable to expect some improvement from the incumbents in 2024.

Meanwhile, we’re pretending that “defense” is this magical thing that will cure all our problems even if it comes at the expense of offense.

I will agree that there is some sunshine pumping on the defense, it’s not really coming at the expense of offense. We had no offense at second shortstop and catcher.

No one has been better about trading their hyped prospects and keeping their valuable ones than Cashman. That said, the yankees are just going to be again an extremely weird team.

Cashman v. Preller is a pretty good matchup in prospect-wits.  Preller isn't afraid to trade his prospects, but he's really good at finding them (which may be the reason he's willing to trade them).

Rick Hahn somehow pulled off his work without a lot of leaking from any side. Maybe his tight-lip conduct inspired the same respect from other GMs, where Chris Getz has no rep, and nobody cares what he thinks, yet.

In most cases, the Sox would have been a lot better off if Hahn hadn't pulled off his work.
If they're trying to take advantage of Getz, he's not letting them.

Could it be possible that Cease is viewed a lot less favorably by the other 29 clubs than he is on this board?

Could be that teams are only willing to give up one back end T100 guy as the centerpiece and the rest of the deal will be lottery tickets.

What I'm getting at is that Maybe Cease's value is closer to the deals that Bowden suggested for the Sox.

Could be. If that’s the case, just hold on to him for a year and a half, then package with a reliever in July ‘25 and we can get that return.  That’s basically what we got for rents of Lopez/giilito.

This is a salary dump.  But for a like us that needs innings and has nothing better to use the rotation spot, he could have been a good use of bad money for us assuming we got something else.

I’d take Kelenic as a throw-in.   Need an outfielder, he could improve.

And it’s a chance to right a wrong!

The most pathetic part of this offseason is how Benintendi/Moncada are blocking any big FA moves by the Sox....and Eloy to a lesser extent.

Financial flexibility dissipated into thin air when they drove the franchise into the ground.

Even those mid to late 80's White Sox teams had hope in the way of draft picks and a new stadium coming...at least there was SOMETHING to be excited about.

I get the Benintendi angst, but Moncada will be here for 1 more year, they don't have anyone else at the position, and it's not all that unlikely that he has a decent year.   I suspect that any savings from moving him will go into JR's wallet and the Sox will pay for it prospect-wise.

Looks to me that the Braves just reloaded their spare parts, after sending  a bunch to the Sox.

The Pirates, but minus the actual player development. This team is in serious trouble outside of blinding falling into success like 2005.

Those teams from 2000 - 2005 were loaded with talent, and they still needed some "blindly falling" to win it.  This team will need a miracle...or Getz to be a great GM, which I suppose would be a miracle.

    Acuña was traded for Scherzer

Well so much for that idea

I just like the idea of getting some more immediate help. I fear a complete rebuild turning into the perpetual Pirates

Bowden's Winter Meetings wishlist, cause we're starved for anything

Cease to Rangers for Leodys Taveras, Cody Bradford, and Josh Stephan

Eloy to Marlins for Jacob Amaya, Karson Milbrandt, and Jacob Miller

I guess I'm the squirrel here, but I'd take that deal with the Rangers, if the prospect was upgraded from Stephan to Walcott or Acuna.

Taveras is an improving hitter and Bradford should be a fine back-end rotation guy.

Me too, if you can get Lawler. Otherwise they can't get it to work I think. Unless you LOVE Jones.

I don't know about the specifics.  Just that I know they have a lot of good young players, their FO lineage isn't as prospect-hoggish as others, I don't think they are quite at the LAD, TBR, AB level such that we are less likely to get their foolsgold prospects, and we've made good trades with them before.

St Louis would bee fine too, as they've made mistakes trading prospects before, but I suspect that they're gun-shy and are only willing to trade out of their junk drawer, which is pretty deep in quantity.
