18. Lance Johnson (11 of 27 lists - 115 points - highest ranking #5 BurlyMan56) bio by knightni - The most exciting play in baseball. - The Triple. Lance Johnson knows it well. One Dog is up there with Sam Crawford, Stan Musial, and Willie Wilson in the record books. He lead the majors in triples at least five times in his career. He even had an almost unheard-of 21 triples with the Mets in 1996. Not bad for a 6th rounder who was a throw-in when the Sox dealt Jose DeLeon to St Louis in 1988. Johnson was an excellent defender in center field and an offensive spark plug on some really bad Sox teams. Need a hit? Johnson averaged .291 in his career. Steal a base? He had over 225 in 6 full and two partial seasons with the Sox. Johnson was also a selective hitter. He walked more than he K'd in 7 of his 14 seasons. One Dog was a Sox fan favorite in an era where there was little to cheer about on the Southside.

19. Scott Podsednik (11 of 27 lists - 110 points - highest ranking #3 whitesoxbrian) bio by whitesoxbrian - My cell phone was broke, and it was a national aired radio show that didn't think the trade was huge. Carlos Lee to the Brewers for Luis Vizcaino and Scott Podsednik. I thought to myself- why? Carlos Lee is a run producing machine, and I had heard Podsednik was brittle and Vizcaino was a gas-can. Well, I figured out "why". He was the anchor in 2005. He got on, stole 2nd, got to 3rd on a bunt, and scored from there. He was the motor. I was Mr. Critical when it came to his defense, but he quickly made up for it in the box. I've memorized his interview after the ALCS clincher, word-by-word. His throw to the plate in an attempt to stop Houston's 6th run in game 2 was awful, yet quickly turned to just another play in the game after he belted one off the struggling Brad Lidge into the right-centerfield seats. It was such an unbelieveable thing- the guy was homer-less during the regular season. Even Aaron Rowand didn't believe it was going to go. His enthusiastic trot rounding the bases will be engraved in my memory forever.

20. Tim Raines (9 of 27 lists - 104 points - highest ranking #7 Markbilliards) bio by knightni - Most members of Soxtalk probably remember Tom Raines as the first base coach in 2004-05 who used to race up the line to the coaching box like he was trying to beat a throw to first. I remember him as something different. He was the first real star that the Sox had acquired since Fisk in his prime. He was the leadoff man that the Sox needed and was key to them winning the A.L. West in 1993. Raines was a real leader and young stars like Robin Ventura, Joey Cora and Frank Thomas looked to him and his playing experience for how to eventually become leaders in their own right. Tim "Rock" Raines will always be thought of as a class act for the Sox.
