  1. With the Pirates coming to town and both teams not playing well, how important is it for the Sox to sweep? Sounds like a stupid question (and it probably is), but with the humiliating loss yesterday I would think a sweep and 5 of 6 home stand would be what the Sox really need. They could head out west (cringe) only 3 games below .500 and a head of steam. Granted a series win is a series win, so winning 2 out of 3 against Pittsburgh would be okay. The Sox, however, need every win they can get before going to the left coast. History tells us it could be ugly.
  2. I voted for Brian. I still think he needs a shot to start quite a few games in a row. I'm not sold that he will be great, but I don't think he's gotten a fair shot yet. My second choice would be Pods. He has been about as good as I expected him to be, which isn't great but okay.
  3. I couldn't see rooting for the Cubs just because Peavy is pitching for the Padres. It's not his fault that Sox nation got exciting and then let down. There was never an indication that he would accept the trade. As a matter of fact, most of the rumors and scuttlebut was that he would NOT accept the trade. I'll admit to being let down, but I don't blame Peavy. I suppose I really can't blame the media either. They were just reporting what they knew. There was a post (or 30) in the Peavy trade thread that stated if nothing else this shows that the Sox are not laying down and are still thinking about winning this year. I agree with that. Whether the Peavy trade DOES happen at a later date or the Sox acquire Oswalt or whatever, I'm satisfied that this season is not over...yet. If we're in the same position a month from now, well that's a different story. So, long story short (too late), I will not root for the Cubs tonight.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) I'll just wait until he walks away and spice up his cinnabon. Wait, this cinnabon wasn't warm when I walked away...
  5. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) or out of a uniform??? You naughty thing. We know what you're thinking... LMAO
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) Yeah that should translate to 10 more wins. Oh at least. But, then the Sox would have to increase their razor budget.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) I think Lillibridge has better numbers this year. True, but at least Giles doesn't look like a 12-year old.
  8. I've always liked Brian Giles since he was with the Pirates. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Sox uniform.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) If this happens today I will rub one out at my cubicle.
  10. QUOTE (beautox @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:44 AM) So long as Gordon, Jordan, Tyler and Brandon aren't mentioned ill be happy. Wow, this thread is growing exponentially. As soon as I read a page another pops up. Anyway, although I'm not very well versed in our minors, from what I've read from the more knowledgable folks here I would agree that Beckham, Danks, and/or Flowers cannot be part of this deal. It's not worth it.
  11. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) I really hope Beckham is not part of this. If that's the case, there is no way this deal should happen.
  12. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:10 AM) sorry source said deal is done pending peavy deicsion Who is supposedly part of the deal?
  13. QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) That's fine, but the Sox are not making this deal as a "shot across the bow" of the Cubs. Right. And as far as I'm concerned I don't give a damn about the Cubs. But can you imagine the uproar in the Cubs-friendly media if this deal goes down?
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:01 AM) If this deal happens, you can bet your money the Cubs are going to be all over the papers for missing out Exactly. Although it's true that the deal has nothing to do with the Cubs, it will have EVERYTHING to do with the Cubs in the media.
  15. So if this deal were to be pulled off, we'd be looking at a rotation compiled of Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Colon (?), and Peavy? Not too bad, provided they all performed like they can. Danks' performance last night was encouraging.
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 20, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) No, not at all. Miller: 9 starts through 39 games = 23.1% (37 starts over a full season) Hall: 36 starts in 163 games = 22.1% Thanks. Maybe I'm just paying more attention this year.
  17. Is it just me or is Corky getting more starts than last year's dumpy 44-numbered back-up catcher?
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Why not trade Jenks? He's going to be getting 10 mil plus per year soon, and there's no reason to have a lockdown closer when your team is rebuilding. The biggest thing about rebuilding is you can't be afraid to lose. Well, I hope that this season is now seen as a rebuilding season. We can argue that it's early only so long. And with the team we have, I'm not holding out hope for a surge like last year. If we know it's a rebuilding season and we start seeing some of these exciting players from the minors, the season can hold some interest.
  19. It really amazes me how almost the entire team is slumping. One guy playing well will not get it done. Hell, four guys playing well will not get it done. The Sox can't rely on Buehrle and Colon (who would have thought Colon would be solid for us?) to have good starts and not worry about atrocious starts by the other three. The bullpen is getting way too much work, and it's starting to show. And the hitting, well, I don't even want to talk about that. What will it take to break the team out of this slump? I don't think it will be an explosive 15-hit, 8-run win. They needed to win the game the other night when they were up 1-0. Sure a 1-0 win doesn't say much for the offense, but it could have produced a spark. I don't know. I'm pretty frustrated, and I'm starting to think that this season is a lost cause. Looks like the Sox will need to break their slump so us fans can break ours. We need some optimism.
  20. I can definitely see a few trades if things don't turn around, but would the Sox trade Colon? They're not paying him much, and I can't imagine he would bring a ton in a trade considering his health and girth (which doesn't help his health).
  21. QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 13, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) It's amazing that we could still only be 3.5 games out after today. Feels like it should be 10 games. You're right. I wouldn't be surprised if a 82-80 record takes the central.
  22. Crap. A decent offense could rise up and win it for Mark, but...
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) Long game last night, fly off day today, and Thome's obviously still a bit sluggish from that heel injury based on how he was running last night. Extra rest for him is good. Makes sense. I was just looking at the lineup and was frustrated. But in reality who else could be in there?
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) There are a lot of guys in AA and AAA and in A ball and rookie ball who can hit a major league fastball better than Lillibridge who will never get a sniff of the big leagues. This is sad but true. Is he up with the club because KW or Ozzie feel that we have to use him because he was acquired in a "big" trade?
  25. I realize it's early in the season, and we're missing a few keys guys because of injuries, but I'm starting to see what fans of the Pirates have been feeling for over a decade.
