i'll be pissed if Richard gets moved to the pen. I love that kid, and he's got trade value as a starter... not a mop up man...
-
that's the problem. Ozzie loves the guy, and always has his favorites whom he gives a shot regardless of whether they deserve it. If Garcia pitches with a mid-4s ERA in the minors, I guarantee he comes up to the big club to get shelled as soon as the Count falls back to earth.

i'm confused. we're that ready to give up on richard as a starter? sure his last two outings haven't been terrible, but he was brilliant in the three before them. i HATE how this organization gives up on certain guys quickly, and NEVER does with others. What if we'd yanked Floyd after his string of terrible starts? And CR's weren't even terrible, just a couple severely mediocre starts. I dunno... I'm not thrilled about this. Wait and see.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) High horse or reality? Anything this org does is second guessed on this negative site everyday. If the Tigers went out and signed Freddy to a minor league deal, there would be conniptions on this site. completely untrue. if the tigers signed freddy we'd laugh our asses off. at least i would. sorry your majesty, but we peasants are a little upset at the current direction of this team. Though if your highness would rather we refrained from voicing our opinions, we will gladly oblige.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:53 PM) LOL overreactions of the century. The guy signed a f***ing minor league deal you whiny b****es. If the Sox DIDNT sign him you would all be b****ing that we didnt take a flier on a guy. Ridiculous how terrible the posts have gotten in this forum. i'm sick of your high horse as well. no, we wouldn't b**** if they didn't sign him. the mets tried it and he was a bust.

he's almost as good as peavy right? i hate the sox right now.

so what happens if all 3 of them suck?

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) yeah I get it. And I know you get what i am saying too. This argument is fun to read, i am hoping it doesnt get sidetracked right with ya. got it.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) I totally agree that Getz is the leasat interesting of any of these guys. Horrible tools for our park, or any park for that matter. He seems kinda clutch, though f*** you if you don't buy into clutch; I do. This kid just might have a lil clutch in him, which sucks because it makes me want to keep him around. the thing is, a slap hitting, high-ish average doubles guy wouldn't be bad for our park, but he just needs to jumpstart himself here. if he were playing up to his ability right now, i don't think we have this argument. will he set the world on fire? no. but will he be a better than average no. 9 hitter? you betcha.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Argument..................................OFF Lets try and bring this back into civil territory here. No calling people foolish for disagreeing with you, no kicking of the teeth for disagreeing with you. Argument..................................ON it was in the mouth, not the teeth. and secondly, it's a physical impossibility - my kicking him in the mouth - as I am currently lying in bed with no motivation to find out where he lives, put clothes on, make the trek there, and... you get it.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Those other four guys are not on the verge of losing their job and possibly careeer to a player that may or may not be better than Josh Fields. My personal belief is that Beckham could not have been called up at a worse time as the tension has to be somewhat high in that clubhouse. with that i completely agree.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) I'm a firm believer in the RC27 way of rating a player's offensive value. It is more refined than OPS because it includes the value of speed. Getz's RC27 is 3.84. That ranks him at the very bottom rung of major league 2Bs. I see no prospect of Getz's numbers getting much better because he has no power -- not even much hope of hitting a lot of doubles or triples -- and therefore little hope of ever developing a high OBP because pitchers will not fear him. He doesn't even seem to use the whole field when he hits. The hits I've seen him get are all pulled into RF. That suggests his BA will also never get much better. Gordon Beckham is vastly better in just about every way to Getz. And Jayson Nix is vastly better as a utility guy because he can play far more positions than Getz. So I just see no room for him. As for light hitting guys with speed, I'm just not enamored that much of them. They have low RC27 totals for the most part, which means that even with their speed they are not increasing the runs scored per game, they are dragging it down. But in the Cell, the Sox certainly cannot afford multiple light hitters. If we're going to keep one, I'll go with Scott Podsednik, who's at 4.38 runs per game, which is better than any CF we have. 1) you're just saying the same things over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over 2) if you say RC27 one more time I will kick you in the mouth 3) and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) This is just total BS. Getz's runs created number is 3.84. How is it ever going to get much better than that? He has NO power, and no hope of every gaining any. Teams don't fear his bat, so who's going to walk him? He's looking at an OPS that might top out .700, and an RC27 number that might top out in the low 4s. In other words, he's David Eckstein at best. And Eckstein is currently ranked 18th among 2B in the Majors at 4.01 RC per game. Of course, Getz is not even Eckstein because he can't play SS. And he's probably not even the best fielder the Sox could put at 2B. Ramirez, Beckham, and Nix may all be better. So, I'll give up the point made about how Getz made it onto the team to start the season -- didn't want to rush Beckham, Nix was hurt -- but neither of those reasons are true any more. Nix is playing and Beckham is up. That means Getz should go. Fields? His RC27 number is even worse than Getz's at the moment. But in 2007 it was 4.72. That's why the Sox should let Fields work out his swing until he fixes it or Viciedo is ready. Send Getz down or trade him. for the love of christ you're making all these assessments based on an amazingly small SAMPLE SIZE. i know others have said this to you, but you obviously just don't care. Sample size matters, and you can't make any realistic judgments on a player after a third of a season's work.

QUOTE (hawkubes @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 07:27 AM) +1 Over the past 12 games Fields has played in, he's raised his batting avg. by 40 points. Nobody else has really been producing all that much offensively except for Pods, and the Sox have won 9 of those games. I haven't been able to catch every game (with the damn WCIU games and Fox deciding to show the Twinks game here) but I can't recall any defensive miscues in that time either He was probably the player of the game last night. I say lay off Fields for awhile, he's playing great right now. having seen something like this posted at least 3 or 4 times yesterday, and having responded to each that it is not accurate, I figured I'd just create a thread so I could keep my sanity. Josh Fields is NOT the only player on the sox hitting well right now. In fact, it's not just Josh and Pods. Please see the following: Over the last 15 games (not including yesterday): Dye: .302/.380/.651/1.031 AJP: .400/.438/.556/.994 Ramirez: .328/.371/.431/.802 Podsednik: .317/.369/.417/.786 Fields: .317/.349/.390/.739 So please, no more Josh Fields man-love about him being the ONLY guy on our team producing right now...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) Yes but the lineup is not. I just hope if Fields can stay reasonably hot, we let him play a lot. Like somebody said in an earlier thread, it's kind of an odd time for the Beckham callup with Fields actually hitting reasonably well. I wish Lexi would pull his ass out and be the Lexi of old. have you not noticed the 50 point rise in his batting average? lexi's getting his head out. He'll be fine.

QUOTE (whitesox61382 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) Let me start by saying that it is a good thing that VAfan isn't part of the Sox front office. word. oh, and the rest of your post was pretty good too.

at the end of the day, no one can really argue against the fact that beckham was just called up too early. the ONLY way having beckham up here makes sense is if we were moving alexei to CF, which we obviously aren't. I don't think Ozzie is done with Getz, and Fields is hitting better these days... it puts us in a very awkward pickle. nice, kenny.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) We sorely need the power that Josh displayed all of a sudden today. i wouldn't call one solo shot a 'display of power'. as we know, even scotty pods can do that now and again.

VAfan, two words: SAMPLE SIZE you're using 39 games to completely write a guy off. well done.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) Pods is the only decent hitter on the team right now, along with AJ. Go figure. We need a healthy CQ or none of this matters tho. did no one see my stat work? Dye, AJ, Ramirez, Pods and Fields are ALL hitting well in the last 15 games.
