Its to early to tell whether or not they will charge the grandmother with perjury. They would have to go through the formal step of charging her with perjury though, it doesnt just go straight to trial.

The only thing the prosecutors could have done differently was not gone for the jugular with a first degree murder charge. Maybe charge the family with manslaughter or something that is easier to pitch to a jury. Without really being active in the case its hard to second guess, you can only rely on what newspapers report and Id say 50% of that is fact at best. Here is an article that talks about some of the issues with going for the Death Penalty. http://www.gainesville.com/article/2011070...?p=1&tc=pgp Personally I probably wouldnt have gone for it, Id have let the Defense make their arguments that Casey was abused by her father, etc. and say while that makes her sympathetic, while it makes her a victim, it doesnt make her daughter any less of a victim, and the evidence is clear, the child died because of someones negligence, someone has to be responsible, whether its the grandfather, grandmother or daughter, someone let the child drown. I think you can convince a jury to give out 3 manslaughter charges and call it a day.

If by new, you mean old. Our entire criminal system is created so that the benefit of the doubt goes to the accused. Could have easily had the standard "preponderance of the evidence" standard. In which case it just had to be more likely true than untrue.
-
Greg, The information you posted simply is not compelling enough absent real evidence connecting her to the murder. It also could be a case of the prosecution aiming to high (did they even try and charge her with child endangerment or something where you could get a conviction for the fact she had no clue where her daughter was for 6 months?) The system is created so that if its 50/50 the accused should walk.

Technically any evidence is enough for a jury to convict so long as its enough evidence that it overcame directed verdict. I have no clue on this case, I didnt follow it and wasnt in the courtroom. I do have to say that reading newspapers about court cases is frustrating because it is generally about jumping to conclusions, and less about analyzing evidence.

Is there any way to dump Rios and get Rasmus?
Soxbadger replied to Lemon_44's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Im not really sure you can definitively say who is the better defensive player, from my eyes its Rios, but other people say Lilli. As for Rios, just have to hope that he can get it back together. When youre sucking its not always easy to have the same desire as when things are going well. Not saying thats how it should be, but for the time being all you can do is hope that he turns it around, because in my opinion hes still the most talented CF on the Sox by a pretty wide margin. -
From your own article: Why not respond to the article with facts? Because the article itself states that it isnt a fact, Repeated over time, there is no way that the results would read the same or true. Its like flipping a coin and getting heads 10 times and then saying that every time you flip a coin it must come up heads. But I think its ironic that the party who by force kept the slave states from seceding is now the more patriotic party supported by the slave states. If they all love America so much, why do they call it the war of Northern Aggression? Why do they fly Confederate Flags? Why do they say "If Lee listened to Longstreet wed pay our taxes to Richmond"? Fascinating how we try to rewrite history. I dont personally believe that the party you support has anything to do with your patriotism.

He took the first pitch for a strike and Im pretty sure the 3rd pitch was a strike as well. He just had no chance.
-
If Marmol throws even 1 strike to Ramirez hes a fool. Adam Dunn is hitting after him.
-
im not sure you pinch run for Konerko there, it really puts a lot of pressure to score 2 this inning.
-
Statistically Pierre is hitting 320 against lefties, Lilli is at 260 with better power numbers. Lilli has better ops overall, but Pierre is actually decent against lefties.
-
Glad we scored on a walk to Paulie because they could have just walked him to get to Pierre. Lets do this Pierre, I guess the Cubs dont realize your splits against lefties are actually better.
-
Konerko forces the wild pitch with his glare.
-
Woooooooo Time for instant offense Konerko.
-
All the Sox need to do is get 4 runs off Wood, and call it a day.
-
The signing of Dunn really backfired as its also blocked Viciedo. That being said, Ozzie didnt need to force Dunn in the line up today and put Konerko on the bench.
-
Ramirez was right on it, just didnt get enough. Dunn mercifully pops up.
-
The offense is horrible and we have a pitching staff thats on fire. Ill take it. Soto out at the play on a really stupid 3rd base coach call.
-
Soriano fly out, Soto single Rodriquez strike out on missed bunt.
-
Man Sox are about to get right back in the race and half of this thread is melting down over no runs scored through 3 innings. And with that 8k posts.
-
Floyd almost had the perfect bunt.
-
Sox line up has been scoring more runs deeper in the game, youd love to get runs early, but im fine with runs late.
-
Sox in some sort of love fest with the Dodgers, whats with the Ethier plug.
-
The problem is that all 3 of those pitches could have been strikes. Dunn swung at 0. You cant just pray for a walk in those situations.

Humber seemingly has no control but battling and getting guys out.
