Ok, but that's what this thread was about - KW lying. The issue of Buehrle turning down the offer is another topic.

Mr. Showtime - I know, but that doesn't mean KW lied about his offer.

Yeah, I guess...but if it's true then Buehrle has one of the worst agents in pro sports. If KW publically says he offered 3 years for Zito money (something million I forget), and he really only offered $315,000 (last year's contract), then Buehrle's agent should have publicly reamed him. This story just doesn't add up - unless at some point before the season Buehrle's agent goes public and burns KW. Listen, at some point Buehrle's going to have to sign something or the automatic increase will go into effect again. Hmmmm....maybe KW offered both - listen take this three year deal or I'm only offering you one year at this other amount - hoping to threaten him into an amount that he thinks will be lower than what MB will make in arbitration next year.

No way should this story be believed unless Buehrle's agent makes an official statement to the press. For one thing, if this story was true, it doesn't make sense that there hasn't been an official public reply from Buehrle's side (it's been over a month since KW publicly said he made that offer). If there has been an official reply, please correct me.
  5. Actually KW said he was after Colon since the end of last season NOT since the Winter Meetings. Because he had already spoken to Minaya - prior to the Winter Meetings he didn't need to talk to him at the meetings (though Minaya said they did speak in the hallway a few times). KW had already told him that if he gets a decent offer for Colon, please make sure KW has a chance to beat it - and this is not being said in retrospect - this is all stuff that came out during the meetings. Colon was the number one guy he wanted. Now during the meetings, KW found out Russ Ortiz was available. That's when he switched his attention - and truthfully - he should have. Ortiz was the second best pitcher out there and he might be able to get him cheaper than Colon (remember at this time the Colon price was deemed pretty damn high). Unfortunately, the Braves came in at the last minute and gave them a good young cheap starting pitcher (Damian Moss and a good prospect). That was too expensive (like us giving up Garland and whoever). I'm glad he didn't try to beat that offer frankly. He ended up getting Colon for LESS than what the Braves got Ortiz for. Pretty damn smooth if you ask me.
